People on here seem to underestimate Nintendo alot.

But then others sort of overestimate Nintendo and it kind of balances out in the end.

Nintendo is selling their IPs to Microsoft and this is true because:

Relevant? No. That'd require AAA 3rd party support. Until Nintendo consistently gets GTA, CoD, anything Bethesda works on, AssCreed, etc...they remain in the Master System zone. Expect a repeat of this gen if they release NX years before 9th gen truly begins.

They get overestimated here if anything, because there are a lot of people that love their games (myself included) but if we're brutually honest about hardware performance, they've really only had one truly successful console in the last 20 years and they basically lost that entire audience in like 3 years flat.

Again, I love their games, they make great games ... but their hardware division and hardware choices? Have been wrong about 70+% of the time for home consoles ever since the Super NES wrapped up.

They can, but they probably won't.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

But first we should make clear what "relevant" means?
I think their next console will sell better than Wii U, but it won't be a real competition for PS4 or Xbox One.

I stated in my thread that it means being able to compete with Sony and MS let's say taking an NPD once in a while or at leat being able to sell more than 7.5 million units a year.

Ohh ok. ^^

I mean, one succesful homeconsole is still a big thing, the only consoles that havent been so successfull were Wii U and gamecube, n64 did still preatty okay for its time. I think Nintendo does a bit more successfull things than not successfull things, it depends on how you turn it around and twist around the facts

I think they have a good chance of retaining the no.1 position in Japan with the NX portable. Especially if it is going to have good Square-Enix support like Dragon Quest XI. But I would expect overwhelmingly for the portable SKU to be the one people buy there, not the console one.

But the US and Euro markets? Yeah ... that is an uphill climb as of right now and they can't have any screw ups. Has to be mistake free and I don't think they have it in them to not make major mistakes.
