Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo Files Patent For a Console Without the Optical Disk (But has a Card Slot)

If this is NX would you buy?

Yes 142 44.65%

No 95 29.87%

Maybe 53 16.67%

That wouldn't be so bad as long as they had a lot of sales and such. I like physical copies too, but it's silly for anyone to consider this a deal breaker. That means that holding a chunk of plastic in your hand is literally more important than PLAYING A GAME.

If the card slot is used for games? Yes.
If it's a digital machine only and the card is for other stuff? Not a chance.

It does seem to have a memory card though so maybe they are going back to cartridges?

Also this thread needs more pics

It also has a gamepad?

ALso it says that the controller will have a display Screen.

Yea... Thats what I meant when I said it has a gamepad

i edit what i wrote with saying the it might be the on the go controller if its fusion.

Its real and its happending guys :)

The software ecosystem with a handheld + home console, that both can play the same game(s) (just at differnt resolutions). Time to imbrace the game cartridges.

Display device on the controller.... gamepad 2.0   ; _ ;

Also no BC then since how can you play wiiU games without an optical disc? (Other than Digital that is)

I dont know... for me this dosent look like a console. It just wouldnt make sense for having no disk reader.Unless it is cartridge based, i think this might be related to QOL.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

Card slot?

Hmm... if this is a console, then I'm confused already.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

Maybe it's a reality check to people who think this is some "must have" feature. In the broad sense backwards compatibility with a failed console that maybe has 15 reeeeeeally must play games in its entire library is not a big priority.

I say f*ck discs. I never really cared for them much and it's zero surprise that Nintendo would be the first to ditch them as they were the last to adopt them.

^ yep this basically means chances of BC are near 0%.

No big deal though.

Im guessing nintendo are planning a replacement for the 3DS, that will run the same games as this NX console.

Basically imagine being able to take your 3DS games, and put them into your Wii U, whenever you pleased.

That what i was about to say. Also if this DeNa thing allows game saves to your NNID could they do something like Microsoft and make the game downloadable if you already own it?
