Forums - Nintendo - Nobody asked for this!!!!!

This is argueing about sementics. People can obviously only ask for specifics if it's about known things. You can't ask for a Splatoon when it hasn't happened yet. People are however asking for new IP's. Asking for new IP's counts just as much so people in fact did ask for a Pikmin and a Splatoon by asking for a new IP. Nintendo just had to fill the blanks and hope people like it.

With existing IP's however, you can ask for specific things because you can know what to expect. People indeed never asked for a spin-off, they wanted a real Metroid game and made that pretty clear over the years. They aren't getting that so they're complaining they asked for something else than what they're getting. The argument that NLG making this game shouldn't hinder the development of a Metroid game by anyone else is also invalid, because we know nobody is doing that anyway and NLG could've just as well made that real Metroid themselves instead. Why aren't they? Why is this spin-off made instead? Making better use (or, more satisfactory use) of resources is basically the main complaint. Nintendo should have known this, but for unknown reasons they went with something that, indeed, 'nobody asked for'.

The complaints about the Zelda game are similar. Everyone wants them to finish Zelda U as fast as possible. Not to waste time on pointless side-projects. Then they come out with this 3DS game, while the 3DS already had enough Zelda releases. Since Zelda is only one team, it definitely took resources away from Zelda U, while people were only asking for that game to be completed and nobody was waiting for another 3DS game to come and delay the main event even further.

Having said that however, I think that now after Iwata, it's inappropriate to still complain about E3. I think we know why their presentation was lacking this year as they evidently had other things on their minds. Whether or not that's good business is beside the point though, but it is understandable considered Nintendo is probably a close family when most are with the company or affiliated with it since the NES days and some even before. I've stopped complaining about E3, and will only mildly comment on the games I wasn't awaiting, out of respect.

I like this post.

As for the bolded. It seems that the person incharge for Metroid wanted to make something he wanted to play and explore rather than what the fanbase wanted. Another bad call after Other M, let's wait and see.

I agree. At the end of the day. Let's see what side is right. Nintendo's or fans. Because I know they wanted to try soemthing new. Just to try getting a new audiance, to like the series. Which backfires a lot of times with TV shows. It's what happened with Resident Evil. Even though the newer games make a lot of money. Capcom still doesn't brush off the hate from fans, that wanted the game to stick with the lock camera setup. And horror. Now they're stuck in not knowing what direction to do a new game, all the time.

What's funny is that I remember reading on a forum just like this one about how cool it would be if they made a spinoff or Metroid focusing on the Galactic Federation...
There was a lot of agreement among users that that was a fabulous idea...
And then when Nintendo announced such a game there was only rage...
Personally, I'm just glad Nintendo is interested in continuing and expanding the IP...

Have a nice day...

It would be more accepted if Samus was the lead, no chibi crap/other random design choices. And not on the 3DS. Unless it was a sidescroller Metroid.

Like others said, all of those games you mentioned were brand new games that wowed us. Nobody asked for these spinoffs.

It'd kind of be like if during the Harry Potter series, instead of writing the next sequel after 5 years of waiting, JK Rowling decided to write a book all about Hermione or the Weasley brothers or some other side character. Even though it's a spinoff series with beloved characters that we recognize, there would be understandable backlash, yes?

That's kind of what these feel like. They reference the popular series and brand name, but are not really what we know and love and expect. And after all the waiting (especially for Metroid), it almost feels like Nintendo is fucking with us. Dangling a carrot after 5 years of waiting and saying "Tough shit, you wanted Metroid, you get this instead." That being said, I think all the announced games will be good (including MP:FF) and I'm excited to play them still. But it can't take the place of an actual canonical game in the series.

It'll be awhile before I figure out how to do one of these. :P

There a lot of complaining but are they just waiting for a game to be perfect? Most of them just wanted to moan.
There are flaws on those spinoff a but if you don't like it, don't buy it. If you think AAA type game from those established IPs would come, it won't. It is really hard to create a lot of AAA games year in year out with Nintendo as they don't have that super big development teams to cater to all IPs.

There is also a fault on Nintendo on not really listening to the fans and create big games, but if the budget to create a greate Metroid Prime or other established IPs are far too greater than the profit they could get or even break even, then they won't risk it too much.

Fans have the right to be pissed. Sony and Microsoft dropped bombs at E3, while Nintendo showed some half-arse spin-offs that you'd expect to see on mobile phones.

Nintendo could have release a 2D metroid game that was a sequel to GBA one, that people have been asking for forever.  I guarantee it would have garnered less hate and hell would have probably cost less.

That is also true.  Again I've said, Nintendo has a share of the blame.  Especially nowadays, the standards would be an HD game for a HC, with an epic story and story should be more than 10 hours for most gamers.
