Like others said, all of those games you mentioned were brand new games that wowed us. Nobody asked for these spinoffs.
It'd kind of be like if during the Harry Potter series, instead of writing the next sequel after 5 years of waiting, JK Rowling decided to write a book all about Hermione or the Weasley brothers or some other side character. Even though it's a spinoff series with beloved characters that we recognize, there would be understandable backlash, yes?
That's kind of what these feel like. They reference the popular series and brand name, but are not really what we know and love and expect. And after all the waiting (especially for Metroid), it almost feels like Nintendo is fucking with us. Dangling a carrot after 5 years of waiting and saying "Tough shit, you wanted Metroid, you get this instead." That being said, I think all the announced games will be good (including MP:FF) and I'm excited to play them still. But it can't take the place of an actual canonical game in the series.
It'll be awhile before I figure out how to do one of these. :P
