I've finally ordered my copy of Splatoon! Hopefully I'm going to enjoy it as much as everyone else.

Voice chat is near useless because individual play is preferred over team play? Why wouldn't they make the game free for all if that was the case? Voice chat can be negative, but it can also be positive. Just make the default option of each game muted, that way the people that like it can use it. Simple.
really, what's so special about splatoon. The artwork is decent, but the colorful style has been done before with team fortress 2 and soon to be overwatch. For every new mechanic that is in splatoon, there are more in games like cod and halo.
there are standards of the fps genre that splatoon still needs to adhere to despite creating a sub genre. Things like online performance, balance, content (local and online), customizability, communication, etc. Splatoon can't just evade all of these criteria under the "it's a sub genre game" cop out. Smash bros and mario kart do them for their respective genres (although mario kart's local multiplayer has seen a downgrade).
splatoon is not bad, but the majority of reviewers have stated that it is just a decent and addicting game, not a revolutionary masterpiece. And splatoon still has more things to add and fix before it can prove them wrong.

Good job. :)

-Majority online multiplayer games doesn't have at all local multiplayer option, so I dont see this like problem beacuse this game with focus on online play. -Yes they fixed customizable lobbies/games. -About Voice chat, no and they probably will not realise that option.
Even with some problems (but every game have some problem), for me is a very serious contender for game of generation so far, almost all aspect of game very good and I really don't care about things like voice chat at all. Smash is again Smash but better than previous 4 Smash games, Bayonetta 2 is better sequel to Bayonetta, Bloodborne is very similar game to Dark Souls games just with different setting. But Splatoon, is so fresh, unique, innovative and offers such a different experience and fun that I can't compared to any other game. And thats why Splatoon is very serious contender for game of generation so far for me. |
Most online multiplayer games also have 8 v 8, 12 v 12, or 16 v 16. Along with a larger arsenal of guns, attachments, tacticals, explosives, rewards, perks, and achievements. On top of this, some games add in modes like zombies or survival or party games. I can see splatoon having an abysmal local coop (like it does already) if it also a lot of the above mentioned things.
Its great they fixed customizable lobbies.
not great that they don't add an option for voice chat seeing as how the competitive scene really enjoys that feature.
If all of this is based on your opinion, then please add opinion to the title and I will be on my way out of here since I don't want to try to change your opinion

Can we please add "opinion" to the mix. Otherwise people come in trying to start a "it's not worthy" debate, when it doesn't matter if it's all just opinion.

Firstly have you played the game because I don't want to waste time explaining things you'd never understand with out playing it thoroughly, the game already has a free for all style of approach that's why VC would add very little. Competitive play is determined by each individual's intelligence on the situation rather then coordination of the whole team. If you run around in a group in Splatoon someone in the other team will simply sneak past you and spread ink else where and you'd still lose.
Splatooon doesn't need to adhere to any other shooters standards because it's not like any shooter, it's like over a decade ago when some people who never played Metroid Prime argued it doesn't have multiplayer like other shooters. A number of things in other shooters wouldn't work in Splatoon modes like capture the flag would be completely useless for example if you've never played the game you won't be able to grasp this, the game has factors of its own making the set it apart so comparing a game that's nothing like other shooters to games that are standard shooters is just broken.
Reviewers also gave GTAIV one of the highest averages in history making it seem like some revolutionary game, many of the reviewers also sucked hard at games like Wonderful 101 because they couldn't understand the technical mechanics so gave it a lower score, so if that's what you base your GOTY/GOTG on that's down to you. A game like Wonderful 101 highlights reviewer flaws as it's a game you experiments, learn the mechanics and get better with consistent practice but reviews never take that into account, they'd give Bayonetta 2 tops marks simply because it's easier to get into and understand the game, it's a great game but the former when fully understood is on par it's just far more technical in how you play, more then any other action game.

I don't mind the debate, I honestly think that's really the only point of the thread. Just wanted to make sure people knew what was being debated.

Well, if every debate ends with "well it's my opinion," it doesn't really convince anyone of anything in the end making the discussion kind of pointless.
but it's your call, just thought I'd give my 2 cents

I have played the game, I do not own the game. By free for all, I meant that they should solely focus on free for all and beef up the local multiplayer if they decided voice chat (which is important in team gameplay) wasn't worthwhile. Clearly you think voice chat wouldn't help, I think otherwise, so why not add it as an OPTION for people like me?
Splatoon is not like other shooters, but it is still a shooter. If the new smash bros only had 4 fighters to choose from, people would be in an outrage seeing as how most fighters have more. People were annoyed when sunspace was removed, but they more than made up for it through other features, what does splatoon have to make up for the poor local coop?
I have actually played through wonderful 101 fully, but I didn't need to to see reviewers were right about the learning curve. "Reviewers also sucked hard at games like wonderful 101." Of course they did, the tutorial was pathetic. Many times I had to look up ways to beat things and realized I had an ability that could help all along. That's not fun, that's frustrating. If you're into those kinds of games, knock yourself out, but gotg should be appealing to all, not the elite few

Have you played the game thoroughly though because a few hours is nothing compared to high rank battles, free for all already exists in the games approach this is why in Splatoon matches can be won in seconds, all you'd hear in chat would be things your map is already telling you or insults, as far as matches go I don't think it won't change much I already know it won't as it's down to the individual's assessment of the situation.
Again Splatoon is not like other shooters so trying to use other shooters as a comparison is just silly and broken no other way to put it it's just a misguided argument like when people were arguing Halo has multiplayer so Metroid Prime should over a decade ago, two completely different creatures and the same applies here. You're using Smash as an argument but that's broken as well because the game already has previous entries if you look at the first Smash game compared to other fighters it was pretty similar to Splatoon in it's differences to other games, it had less characters and modes compared to most fighting games at the time.
Right now your argument hinges on local co-op a feature 90% of shooters released now days don't even have at all, Halo 5 won't even have split screen so this says it all about the arguments you're trying to push in claiming standards of the genre yet the genre itself isn't entertaining the feature you're focused on. Splatoon has a ton of other content to make up for its co-op feature and even gives free regular DLC something not many shooters are doing.
Wonderful 101's tutorial is no different to that of Bayonetta and DMC, fact it is many reviewers just sucked at the game and you yourself it seemed no offence, it's funny because when Nintendo added Fi into Skyward Sword the same people moaned about hand holding but when W101 gives you the basics and leaves you to figure things out on your own accord complaints come the other way from the same people. Fact is the game tells you the basics and all abilities and items have descriptions on what they do, if you don't have a brain that can put 2 and 2 together in that regard it's not the games fault sorry.
