Voice chat is near useless because individual play is preferred over team play? Why wouldn't they make the game free for all if that was the case? Voice chat can be negative, but it can also be positive. Just make the default option of each game muted, that way the people that like it can use it. Simple.

really, what's so special about splatoon. The artwork is decent, but the colorful style has been done before with team fortress 2 and soon to be overwatch. For every new mechanic that is in splatoon, there are more in games like cod and halo.

there are standards of the fps genre that splatoon still needs to adhere to despite creating a sub genre. Things like online performance, balance, content (local and online), customizability, communication, etc. Splatoon can't just evade all of these criteria under the "it's a sub genre game" cop out. Smash bros and mario kart do them for their respective genres (although mario kart's local multiplayer has seen a downgrade).

splatoon is not bad, but the majority of reviewers have stated that it is just a decent and addicting game, not a revolutionary masterpiece. And splatoon still has more things to add and fix before it can prove them wrong.

Firstly have you played the game because I don't want to waste time explaining things you'd never understand with out playing it thoroughly, the game already has a free for all style of approach that's why VC would add very little. Competitive play is determined by each individual's intelligence on the situation rather then coordination of the whole team. If you run around in a group in Splatoon someone in the other team will simply sneak past you and spread ink else where and you'd still lose.

Splatooon doesn't need to adhere to any other shooters standards because it's not like any shooter, it's like over a decade ago when some people who never played Metroid Prime argued it doesn't have multiplayer like other shooters. A number of things in other shooters wouldn't work in Splatoon modes like capture the flag would be completely useless for example if you've never played the game you won't be able to grasp this, the game has factors of its own making the set it apart so comparing a game that's nothing like other shooters to games that are standard shooters is just broken.

Reviewers also gave GTAIV one of the highest averages in history making it seem like some revolutionary game, many of the reviewers also sucked hard at games like Wonderful 101 because they couldn't understand the technical mechanics so gave it a lower score, so if that's what you base your GOTY/GOTG on that's down to you. A game like Wonderful 101 highlights reviewer flaws as it's a game you experiments, learn the mechanics and get better with consistent practice but reviews never take that into account, they'd give Bayonetta 2 tops marks simply because it's easier to get into and understand the game, it's a great game but the former when fully understood is on par it's just far more technical in how you play, more then any other action game.
