Forums - Microsoft - In its only two shows of the year, MS didn't make any significant new game announcements?

What?

That's the impression i get.  Two big games shows and Microsoft doesn't have any "significant" titles to announce?  I guess Xbox One gamers are screwed.  Nothing significant to play.  Poor guys.

Meanwhile, somebody will eventually post a list of "significant" niche Japanese hentai games to show how amazing Console Y is.

It's true according to some VG members. Pack it up and ship it back to them

Hey? We only knew a bit about Horizon due to leaks, nothing official was ever said. Gears 4 was official a long time ago. By that logic Scale bound and Crackdown were announced today instead of last year.

Shu said Guerilla Games next PS4 game will be Epic on the day the PS4 launched. thats official as it gets. then GG said they are making a new IP at the japan launch, thats official as well.

we knew MS bought the franchise and we knew who was making it. but we didnt know what the game was exactly. it could have been called gears mega shit heads for all we know. Gears 4 was announced during E3. try finding an official announcement of "Gears 4" or "Gears of War 4" before E3 and you wont find any.

There is a difference between knowing that another [insert existing franchise name here] is in the works, and knowing that GG is working on something that isn't KZ and also probably not FPS. One can always assume that any studio not working on an announced game is working on an unannounced game, therefore no game announcement is new since we know studios are always doing something.

Having said that, if this is the first time Gears 4 has been explicitly mentioned and shown, then it's as much of an announcement as it is possible to have for this franchise.

Not sure why people still insist on dismissing any games from MS that will also be on the PC. Its like dismissing a PS4 game that will also be on the Vita. There will be no PC game from MS that will not require you to upgrade to Windows 10. Its a ploy by MS to not only to get you to upgrade to Windows 10 but also use XBL on Win 10 and sign up to their services even if you only have a PS4 console. You are still within MS platform and services so dismissing this point actually blinds you to the importance of how MS sees the situation. Weather you play on the console or use Win 10 store and XBL on the PC, you are still in their eco system.

MS' showing at Gamescom made me realise what a bloody fubar this generation has been with announcements.

And you know... I can kind of excuse Nintendo and Microsoft for it.

WiiU started stalling straight out of the gate, so in January 2013 they had to do something. Emergency Nintendo Direct, announce a load of stuff that was miles off releasing. I mean, some of it was timely, but Yoshi & Xenoblade only released in 2015 (more than 2 years later) and Zelda & Shin Megami Tensei still aren't out. It was clearly an emergency move and established a precedent of announcing stuff much, much too early. They seem to have improved since then.

And then Microsoft did the same with XB1. Got stomped by PS4 out of the gate, so had to do something special aka E3 2014. There was some great, timely stuff in there, but there was also Inside (still not out yet); Rise of the Tomb Raider (still not out yet); Scalebound (not even close to releasing by the looks of things); Crackdown (same as Scalebound) and to really take the cake, Phantom Dust (not even a thing anymore).

But what I don't understand is that Sony have probably been the worst for it. Uncharted 4 was announced far too early (holiday 2014 release, oh yeah?) Final Fantasy XV and Kingdom Hearts 3 reveals were purely hype machines that weren't even really games at the point they were shown. Shenmue hadn't even begun as a Kickstarter. Heck, even stuff like Destiny & No Man's Sky spent far too long in the spotlight relative to how far they were/are away from release.

And that's the biggest problem - keeping momentum going when you're announcing stuff so early. You either have to try and keep the interest by showing new little slithers of gameplay footage of the same things that get announced, or you have to come up with a new, better set of announcements That are probably equally - if not further - away from launching.

The only game that springs to mind as doing things right this gen is Fallout 4. Announced and released within the same year. More of that please, publishers.

This, so very much. The Xbox community will grow to over 100mn next year and MS would be smart to release all games on both platforms with cross buy and cross play.

I disagree with the Sony part.

Let's check the Sony announces and release of the games.

You are using the exception like Uncharted, DriveClub, etc but all others first-party were announced and releases in less than a year.

The games announced at E3 this year (first-party) will be released in 2016.

Exactly.  MS would love for people to say, hey I will not get an X1 for this game but will gladly upgrade to Win 10 and get it on the PC.  MS want gamers to stay on the PC using Windows instead of looking at Linux or Valve Steam OS or any other options. Cross buy definitely a smart decision since it gives gamers that feeling of getting the best bang for their buck so they stay with MS services.  You can really see this focus from MS to attempt to create this huge eco system with the PC, Tablet, Phone and console space to entice developers and consumers.

This is MS big pitch to get to a critical mass of devices which then bring in developers which of course bring in consumers.  Should be interesting to see how this plays out in the next few years.

Lets take UC4... honestly amazing stuff in how its reveals have just gotten better and better. I think MS has some trouble in this department. i take a look at QB from gamescom and cant help but feel underwhelmed. it felt like the same footage they showed off last year fo the game but with a different main character and during the day instead of night.

Then I don't think you were paying attention. This was a highlight. Showing a fantastic way to give backstory and plot. And you can still control the character during it.

@OP: Just because you don't like some of the newly announced games doesn't make them insignificant.

They should reveal all their projects for 2017 and 2018 to make the list looks bigger than it is and hide the fact that they don´t have nothing big for the next months.... oh wait they have a ton of big stuff for the next months and they have announced new games recently....

You must be talking about some other company, because this thread makes really no sense.
