Going by some here the remake would have:

- The same fixed camera, on the same angles
- The same MIDI soundtrack rendered on the PS1 soundchip
- The same turn-based combat

Because fuck 20 years of improvement / refinement.

REmake would never have happened if it were up to you, and FF would be dead like Guitar Hero for releasing the same old shit again and again, and again.

Face it. Things change. This game is not going to be made solely for nostalgia-blinded fans.

They're remaking FFVII, they're not doing a new game out of nothing. I'm always happy to see changes in a franchise, like FF did all those years, but, again, they're remaking FFVII. They have to be respectful with, at least, its gameplay, the heart and soul of ANY game. They are offering a totally different experience if they butcher that. That's not modernizing a game, that's a fucking murder.

So, we can anticipate the amazing cinemas of the summons will be a lametastic show like in FFXIII?? Great!

Sounds awesome. Hope they implement the FFXIII combat system. It is extremely stylish and fun, and paradigms would give FFVII some new gameplay mechanics that could go along well with the classic things.

I'm only certain of not even having seen the game yet, that's all. Should it suck then I still have the original one to go back to which I fortunately have no problem with and if it's awesome then I'll enjoy the remake. I'm not interested in passing judgement on this without any concrete information on how things are even going to change, I'm not letting my currently good gaming mood be ruined by getting angry or worried about something I essentially know nothing about yet.

When they show us what they're having in mind then I'll decide if I'm happy with that or not, until then I'm open to change.

LOL. I'm not asking you to 'pass judgement'. You make it sound so meaningful. I'm sure this game will be the game we want BUT I still have to be honest and say when I read that it made me twitch. 'Tis only natural...

The PS5 Exists.

Well let's what they make of it then. You don't have to immediately assume the worst guys.

That makes things boring.

My bet with The_Liquid_Laser: I think the Switch won't surpass the PS2 as the best selling system of all time. If it does, I'll play a game of a list that The_Liquid_Laser will provide, I will have to play it for 50 hours or complete it, whatever comes first.

"We’re not going to be changing it into a shooter or something like that," Nomura told Official PlayStation Magazine (via GamesRadar). "We are going to be bringing dramatic changes, but we want to make sure it’s still recognizable."

Huh, I never heard Nomura talk like that before. He seems looser. Well, something "like a shooter" would be an action game and they still want to make it recognizable so it could still be turn based of a different form.

It will only be recognizable if we can control the party directly however. Kind of difficult if it's just an action game, that would require some *puts shades on*

No. I guess I worded it really badly. Fixed camera adds so much charm and uniqueness to different places and needs to be used frequently. There can definitely be free camera but not 100% of the time you are controlling the character.

The camera will be a behind the back, full control, 100% of time, 3D camera. Period. That is the modern standard that every JRPG franchise has adopted.

I don't know about that. Many of the memorable scenes were tied to fixed camera, scenes that would not simply work behind the back. And I'm talking gameplay moments not cut-scene moments.

edit: Fixed camera can bring so much to storytelling.

Your wrong.

This is getting pathetic.

No, he's definitely right about that.  Not saying FF7R should stay with that, but it had its advantages...ah you know what, in this particular case fuck it, SE would do better with that design technique in their current state of camera angle use.  They really do have too much over the top camera action.  Very jittery and spastic camera movements in key story scenes.

It's important to just let the camera stay on the actors in play for a while and let it rest.  Let moments sink in and allow the audience to judge rather than having the camera try to tell the audience.  There were plenty of striking scenes that stuck in gamer's minds as they played just because of how the scene looked.  It was very effective.  That and the original's soundtrack did wonders for the experience.

People saying turn-based combat is a thing of the past make me sad. I still play games with turn-based combat that feel fresh and new.

Hope it's an ARPG!

A wat? What games are ARPGs?

Doesn't sound too good, but will wait and see what the actual gameplay is like
