Forums - Gaming - Final Fantasy 7 remake's combat will have "dramatic changes"

Just as long as it's not shitty like 12-15. FFX is still their best combat system by far.

If any FF7 fan say they didn't shudder at that thread title, I'm calling you a liar!!!

Fingers crossed.

I didn't and like I said I finished FFVII several times.

Remember, this is SE. Are you really certain your bum didn't squeak just a little?

Make a brand new player play or watch the original vs the remake.   The original would give them the initial impression that 70% of the game was about avoiding enemies like a Clock Tower type game, because there was no choice due to ammo limitations.  The remake would give them the initial impression that intelligent use of resources was the game instead.

I must say the bolded is really confusing me. I played through original Resident Evil so many times back in the day and you definitely had enough ammo to kill all the enemies easily. You just had to be accurate and effective. And I'm not talking about using knife on every enemy. It was crucial to collect every ammo the game gave you, it was practically mash X for every possible wall and detail.

All I'm saying, Resident Evil----->Remake, Final Fantasy VII----->Remake. Not Final Fantasy VII----->Advent Kingdom Hearts/FFXV/FFXIII. You need to have full control of every character in battle, imo it is crucial to the storytelling also.

There is a turning point in both.  The point where you gather enough ammo to feel comfortable with gunning things down in the original happens later than in the remake.  This is mainly due to how much ammo the self defense items can save you, the ammo saved by getting critical hits, well as getting other weapons earlier.

Well, personally it is more about how bad squares recent combat systems have been.  13 was just plain awful to me, and 15 looks even worse.  Honestly, as long as it is turn based and I can control each party member I'll probably be happy, but I don't trust square anymore.  They have sucked for far too long and took what was once my favorite franchise, final fantasy, and turned it into something that I hate.  These "dramatic changes" is just another opportunity for them to screw this up.  All they need to do to make this an amazing game is new graphics and add voice, that's it.  They will do more, obviously, but I don't trust square to make the decisions on what is good and what isn't that they can add...

I suggest letting go of SE officially then. No need hang on to old sentiments if they continue to disappointed you.

Of course, and they certainly haven't received any money from me in years.  They only peaked my interest by announcing this remake, but if they screw it up, they will continue to get no money from me.

I'd love for all the people that are so outraged by this to explain to me what was so special about FF VIIs combat.

Everything is special about it!

(1)Being able to control your whole team and not relying on AI assistance and then getting frustrated when they screw things up.
(2)The strategy and planning involved in winning boss battles, you can't just mash buttons and hope for the best you actually have to plan things out. You have to set your characters up with the right materia and equipment or you may not even have a chance. This is more for boss battles (particularly the optional ones) than the fairly easy regular battles.
(3)The ability to adjust the pace of it. VII actually have controls to alter the speed of the ATB bars, so if you wanted fast paced combat you could have that, or if like me you wanted the slowest possible combat that pauses everytime someones ATB bar is full you can have that too.
(4)Long battles. Some of the boss battles could take a long time and require a lot of effort and were really satisfying to win. With action you can't really do that, for one thing people don't want to spend hours hacking at the same enemy in action games but also there isn't really time to recover from any mistakes.
(5)Able to recover from mistakes. Screw up and on the verge of defeat? No problem, you have time to plan and think out your next moves, use cure, throw some phoenix downs or whatever, and have a chance at turning the battle around.
(6)Being able to eat a sandwich or something while playing. No chance of getting a game over or something while you take a break to have a bite of your sandwich as the game will just wait for you to have your turn.

(7)And of course most importantly, it's just FUN!

(1) Is possible in a real time battle system as well, but yeah being able to take control of the whole party would be preferable

(2) The materia and equipment systems don't have to be affected by battle system changes, as for the startegy part I stand by my opinion that FFVII in large parts is in fact just mashing buttons, there are very strategical turnbased JRPGs, Final Fantasy VII (and arguably FF as a whole) isn't one of them.

(3) That seems like the definition of a nitpick

(4) Too long battles in FFVII or other turnbased RPGs are just as tedious as long battles in games with a different battle system, especially since most of the battle will just be about repeating the same action over and over again anyway.

(5) In a well designed game there will always be the possibility to recover from mistakes.

(6) Pause buttons still exist ;)

(7) And every other system can be as well.

Well then I can confirm that I won't be buying it, so fuck you Square Enix you fucking cunts.

calm down, bruh. It ain't that serious.

Why are people judging the game though there is no gameplay out yet? Game still could be awesome!
I will never understand the gaming community...

I'm only certain of not even having seen the game yet, that's all. Should it suck then I still have the original one to go back to which I fortunately have no problem with and if it's awesome then I'll enjoy the remake. I'm not interested in passing judgement on this without any concrete information on how things are even going to change, I'm not letting my currently good gaming mood be ruined by getting angry or worried about something I essentially know nothing about yet.

When they show us what they're having in mind then I'll decide if I'm happy with that or not, until then I'm open to change.

How about the camera angle outside combat? How would people react if it was 3rd person free camera? I just realized Square could fuck this game up in so many different levels...................

I cannot imagine toilet-free life.

Kebabs have a unique attribute compared to other consumables. To unlock this effect you need to wolf down a big ass kebab really fast, like under 10 minutes or so and wait for the effect to kick in. If done correctly your movements should feel unbelievably heavy to the point where you literally cannot move at all.
