Forums - Sports Discussion - "The boxing world thinks Floyd Mayweather's next fight is a complete joke." Possible Rocky Story

The funny thing to me is that 90% of those guys would do the same thing if they had the chance to retire undefeated.

Mayweather gets called out for doing what almost every other boxer and promoter does on a regular basis. It comes with the territory, obviously, of being the best, most famous, and most controversial, but it's still kind of amusing.

thus why boxing is irrelivent and no one cares about it anymore.

The Mayweather/Pacquiao fight had a chance of making boxing relevenat again with its huge hype and everyone int he world somehow convinced they needed to watch it.

Well we all watched it and it was a boring ass rigged fight.

I don't care how much they hype up another fight, I will never watch boxing again.

How exactly was it rigged?

Boxing is dead. So this boxing world is already a myth of a bygone era. Lol

I'm still thankful for Mayweather for beating Pacquaio because politicians are just the worst. XD

The Pacquaio-Mayweather fight wasn't rigged. It was just boring, but you can't really blame a guy for doing what he needed to do to win.

Also regarding the Rocky analogy ... real life is often very different from Hollywood.

Mayweather is one of the best ever.

Anything related to Mayweather is a joke because he's a joke.

Mayweather has worked harder and smarter than anyone you know personally, including yourself. He hasn't reached the top by being a joke, you don't even go pro by being a joke. Have you ever tried devoting yourself to a fighting sport, maybe even for a few months?

The true joke is pro sportsmen/women getting shit like this the more they are famous, from people that have no idea what it takes to have certain achievements behind you.

Wowwowow.... back off the guy kid. Who the fuck do you think you are calling out somebodies life achievements by not knowing absolutly anything about him? Not like Mayweather, who is mediatized 24/7 and seems to be one of the biggest douchebags the industry has ever produced. And yes, he is a running joke, like it or not, and the only person he has to thank this to, is himself. He is not a true sportsmen, he is a commercial....

Lol, before calling people kids on the internet, learn to type.

Lastly, he has commercialized his career, but up to the point where he could do that, he had been through a lot of struggle and dedication to the sport. And whether you like it or not, it doesn't matter what the media or the people think about him, he has made more money than most sportsmen in the history of all sports. In that sense, he has worked harder and smarter than the people you know in real life. It's not undermining those people's personal achievements, it's just demonstrating his success. Bad or good image, you will never have what he has, and for a reason.

People on the internet need to make the difference between a joke/scam and someone who is talented but has a disagreeable personality.

I never knew that typeing skills came with age. You do know that there are people who suffer from different forms of aphasia. Ignorant, bigot asshole.

For the second part, you have no idea about that one, now do you? Or what people consider success in any other way or form. Being an A tire boxer is nothing in comparison of being an A tire genetics researchers. One will be forgotten as soon as he drinks away his brains the others work will live forever. So you are simply standing out for a man, who makes millions of basicly being one of the top 100 boxers in the world, and because he actually chosen his fights well, and payed off the harder ones.At least that is pretty much the consensus at this point.

But let me guess, you still think that wrestling is an A level sports, and nothing is scripted...

Vote the Mayor for Mayor!

Hasn't been known for quite some time that Mayweather has specifically picked fighters that are either past their prime, or simply not as good?
This isn't saying the guy isn't a great fighter...after all, even beating the people he has beaten time and time again is an accomplishment.

Money can't buy happiness. Just video games, which make me happy.

This article goes on about how Mayweather is a wuss, took a opponent that he has a better chance with, will be Mayweather's final fight, how other fighters are disappointed, how the boxing world is hating on Mayweather.  That's the spin of this article.   Oh yeah, and that his next opponent is no threat to Mayweather and is serving as a jobber.

Yet, here it is, there's a chance at a Rocky story in the real world.  Here he is, presented as the man that cannot be defeated, and his next opponent is this nothing boxer with a bad record.  And mind you, I'm not crazy enough into thinking this could be some grand Cinderella movie, but it could be.  It's not going to happen, but it could.  My biggest beef with this article is that it takes no account for his opponent.  This spin is so vain.  Invert that and you get a story that the media could dubbed the final one that took out Mayweather.

Rocky comparison.  Drago is working out in that crazy future ice bath machine, while Rocky is at it in a giant trashcan.  I'm just saying, this could be Mayweather's actual last match.  I would like it to be Rocky who punched cow meet, chased chicken, run downtown streets of Philadelphia, and did everything he could to put on a great match.  This is it, make it a good one.  Give Apollo a good run for his money.  Go Andre Berto, Go.

Let's give Mayweather his due.  He's paid the price for his choice of fighters.  He can afford that.  It's just one of those things you have to agree on.  He deserves that right.  Let's have it back fire on him.  Let's give Andre Berto the benefit of the doubt going into this fight.  Go Andre Berto, Go.

P.S. Mayweather is GOAT.  Wat up h8trs!

I don't think he is allowed to win in is contract, that was probably the first clause when they granted him the fight.

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

Mayweather is boring to watch but nobody can deny he's one of the best of all time. He's a defensive fighter who's almost impossible to hit who knows how to get enough points to win a round. Good luck to him.
Don't forget the guy has names like Canelo, Coto, Ortiz, Pacquio, Hatton and Del La Hoya on his CV as beaten opponents. To say he's fought nobody is a joke frankly.
All these MMA fans who say Boxing is dead..... Name me one MMA fighter who can command a pay day like Floyd Mayweather?
I personally think he's picked a fight that's very winnable for him with an eye on a Pacquio rematch next year. I think he'll call that his last fight and attempt to get a 50-0 record and a massive farewell payday. After the first fight vs Manny was so subdued I don't think the hype will be as big as last time but if Manny has his shoulder fixed and most importantly is prepared to let his hands go and risk a KO himself then the fight can be amazing!
