Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Fire Emblem Fates over sexualization is really off putting imo (pics)

I don't like it.

I don't get why people here get so defensive everytime there's critcism about a Nintendo game.

This just makes it look like another generic skimpy JRPG#32235.

Fire Emblem had a great art style up until Awakening, now fates just went full "compile hearts/senran kagura" crap (imo).

Altough i don't blame them honestly, Awakening was going to be the last game in a franchise that was about to die, and Awakening turned it into very important 3DS franchise now.

Still, the price was too high, now instead of getting lords fighting for their people and empire, we get big titties and softcore porn, it's like they sold their dignity just to stay afloat.

However this is just an opinion, if you just enjoy this type of artstyle, well, better for you.

I just wish this moe artstyle could die, there's so few JRPGs nowadays that don't look like K-ON and stuff like that.

I just can't immerse myself in a game that have this kind of characters, i wan't to play as a knight with full plate armor, not as a 15 year old with double D cups almost nude fighting other 15 year olds with D cups.

preach.

well said, i feel the same

I enjoyed Persona 3 and 4 and I know they had some fanservice, but it was overall pretty light, especially Persona 3 for which I really only remember the beach scene (but it's been long since I played the game), at least the characters in Persona 3 & 4 weren't designed and proportioned overly crazy to draw attention to all that stuff.

I expect Persona 5 to have some fanservice as well, but if it's as over the top as SMTxFE for example looks to be then I'll be extremely disappointed, I don't need that shit.

And finally I have no problem with hand drawn tits, but there's a time and place for everything and when I'm gaming then that's neither the time nor place for that to me.

Fanservice in Persona 3 and 4 was light but it was there. You had a beach and hot springs scene. You also had a couple of innuendo jokes throught the game but I agree, it was light stuff.

But from the looks of it, Persona 5 is going to be full of perverted stuff... I mean the girl in the trailer is wearing a dirty cat suit. I expect two or three females to join her in the next trailers all wearing sexy outfits.

Maybe it's because you have kids, in that case I can understand you. You can't go around showing your kids those things.

Well personally, it doesn't appeal to me in that kind of way.
But I do like it getting added in the series. Why? Because in the time and era of which these games take place, there was obviously a LOT of sex. And it does not bother me they decided to add it in.

I just wish there were more male scenes. ;)

Oversexualization or not, the Fire Emblem franchise as we knew it is dead since Awakening released.

You can't say that Awakening and Radiant Dawn are 2 games of the same franchise.

Loll are you kidding me? FEA has Fire Emblem mechnics at its heart... The Core gameplay of the franchise is there with some added and decreased elements... FEA brought back a few things that the franchise had anyway. It had the map system from Sacred Stones, The marrige system from FE4 and a few other things. Yea it went a lot more fan service but that doesn't magically make the game not part of the franchise anymore... Thats just nonsense at best

Awakening compared to Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn?

Crappy story (if you call that a story), crappy characters, almost all maps are wide open fields with nothing on it, no balancing in the difficulty, only "Kill all enemies" or "Kill the boss" objectives, no gold, items or XP management (unlimited with side battles), and no strategy involved in the entire game (pair up your two main characters, win the battle, and at the end you don't even have to pair them up, one character is enough). And I surely missed a few points.

Nope, it's not the same franchise to me, it's more like the kid friendly mobile spin off.

Well no one is arguing that it wasn't more streamlined compared to the rest of the franchise but that doesn't really make it not part of the franchise... The story and characters are all subjective. Yes, this isn't the best FE game and I doubt anyone is saying that it is but going at a different direction really doesn't mean that its suddenly not part of the franchise. And its not like it can't bring back the things it lacked in future installments in terms of gameplay... Thats the benefit of having a franchise that isn't dead compared to one that is...

Honestly, I find it absolutely disgusting. Especially when it comes to female characters that look younger than 15. I find Lara sexy, but the second picture in the OP truly appalling. It's in your face and lazy.

It reminds me of an episode of Sword Art Online Season 2(?). The main female character is completely naked and there is so much emphasis on her naked body that for a second I felt like I was watching a different anime. Ffs, if I want to watch porn, I can do that just fine. Is it too much to ask to play some video games or watch some anime without the stupid echi(? not looking that shit up) stuff?

I feel like developers are like, "here, let's add some naked girls for all those simple minded perverts out there". No, thank you. I much rather watch/play for the story.

To me that's character design and the way both of these characters are handled doesn't put the sexualization to the forefront.

The sexy teacher angle regarding Quistis is a projection derived from a fantasy some players might have but the game doesn't really push that. The scene your gif comes from is basically her sighing because Squall and Seifer have been at it again, there's nothing sexual about it (unless your imagination makes it so).

For example, you could say Irvine plays the sexy cowboy role,  but that wouldn't be true because the game doesn't exploit the character in that way.

One thing you have to keep in mind is there's a difference between sexualization and over-sexualization. Tifa and Quistis are sexualized, there's no denying that but it doesn't cross the line into stuff like what is posted in the OP or that MSGV girl.

I mentioned Quina and no one bats an eye. I really got aroused by her, specially with that long tounge she had.

Maybe we are using the wrong term here. It's not "sexualized",it's "hot chick". And RPG's are full of those. You need a hot chick to be a decent RPG.

FF VII for example has 3 very hot chicks. The "hot as fuck" Tifa and the "hot but cute" Aerith.  You also have the "almost hot and a little bit too young" Yuffie.

I've just finished a run through FE: Fates (I chose birthright, so no playable Camilla) and the things you've pictured are in the accessory shop, an entirely optional part of the game (It's in the "My Castle" hub/rest area you go to in between chapters; even then, you have to spend building points to build it in the first place). That wasn't my thing so I didn't really play around with it, but if you choose to, then the option is there. If you don't want to look at the characters in their swimwear, then the game definitely doesn't force you to.

On Camilla: She and her character as a whole is much less sexualised than female characters in a lot of other games. Her voice is rather... lusty, however. That'll probably be changed in the English version though. Likewise, I wouldn't be surprised if there was a bit of censorship and they covered up her boobs a bit like they did for Tharja in Awakening.

It's off-putting for me as well. Some people play something colorful and it makes them feel embarrassed to play it, like a kid. I'm not that way; what makes me feel like that is anime bewbs. It makes me feel stupid for supporting it, and to me it's indicative of a project that's traded any integrity for sad pandering.

I agree 100%, but whatever, if this sells more, what can we do? it's capitalism, Fire Emblem was going to die and Awakening saved it by turning it into a waifu breeding simulator.

Pretty much.  It baffles me when there's so much "material" readily available outside of games, but apparently the majority of the population wants it all the time, in everything, always, and will literally overlook the game itself if there isn't enough of it.  I never want to meet that kind of gamer.

Hahaha its really funny. The female fire emblem fans have no problem with the sexualization.
is it really embarrassing for you, guys?
