This would have been a problem for slimes.

They can always have a rethink and decide the 3DS fanbase is where the sales are at, unless Sony has bought and paid for DQXI exclusivity. |
Anythings possible but at this point I would big money against that hapenning. All their big JRPGs are coming to PS4 (including FFVII) and if they wanted to grow the franchise outside of Japan, 3DS would make very little sense as it will likely be dead or dying by time of the games arrival (fall 2016?), meaning it probably won't e ven make sense for the Japanese market either. Also you can't just between a system like the PS4 to the 3DS, the amount of money that would cost in remaking assets to fit the handheld.
Interested to see if it will come to NX though
Should be huge in Japan
Don't see it making any waves in the west though
It certainly won't make waves in the west, but if the game follows the text-lite trend of the building block genre, odds are favorable for at least a digital only localization since it would be about one day of translating and otherwise all profit.

Are the games normally announced far in advance like Final Fantasy? |
Oh yeah, DQ IX was announced in December 2006 and didn't release until July 2009 in Japan (a year later in the west)
For DQ X there is this (from Wikipedia):
Dragon Quest X was formally announced by Yuji Horii on December 10, 2008 at a Dragon Quest conference,[14] On September 5, 2011, Square Enix held a Dragon Quest conference where they showed a trailer and confirmed it was for Wii and Wii U.[15] Players of both versions have access to the same world with cross-platform interaction.[16] Upon the initial announcement of the game, Nintendo president and CEO Satoru Iwata compared the Dragon Quest series to the Brain Age series, which was also seen as unmarketable in the West, and declared that he would like to work closely with Square Enix to raise the series' international appeal.[6]
Yeah, good job on that one Iwata.
Damn this looks pretty awesome, should do really well in japan. wonder if it will get localised.

According to Verendus ever DQ game on PS platforms is heading to the west.
We could see 2 other DQ annoncements in the next 3 weeks...insider "verendus" teasing it:
I honestly hadn't even considered that.
So let's say we have an older entry coming in HD, a new unique entry, and a third unique entry in the long-term future (we'll just accept this as happening since it will, it's just really early), and also DQH3 in the future at some point if they go ahead with it that quickly. Although, I'm not aware of that last one, but that doesn't mean anything anyway.
Still, that's a lot of DQ.
don't know, but sounds like DQ V in HD and DQXI for me...
I have to think DQXI is a lock for PS4, maybe PS3 too now.
