Forums - Nintendo - I need a question answered for Etrian Odyssey

So I love Atlus/RPG's and I really want to get into Etrian Odyssey.

However, the only part about the series that I dislike is map making.

Due to this, I haven't yet gotten a game in the series. I have heard there are some games where there is an option to AUTO map? So I don't have to do it myself?

If so, out of the following, which have the options to automap?

Etrian Odyssey IV

Etrian Odyssey Untold

Etrian Odyssey Untold 2 (Yes I know this has not been released yet)

Persona Q - The mapping is why I haven't yet gotten this game either. Is there an option to auto map in this as well?

Thank you so much!

I have Untold, you can set it so the game draws the walls and field as you advance but for treasures and obstacles you still have to mark it on the map.

Thanks!

Another question if you don't mind answering

Is it required to mark everything on the map in order to advance in the dungeons?

There should still be demos for IV and Untold available on the eShop, both of which allow you to transfer your progress over into the full game.

The reason why I say this is because I am not sure if IV has an auto-wall feature. Untold has it, Persona Q has it, Untold 2 should have it as well; in these three games floor tiles you stepped on and walls you've touched can be added automatically to the map. However, everything else (icons for stairs, treasure chests etc.) still have to be added manually.

So based off this, I'm assuming it is required to mark everything on the map in order to advance in dungeons?

Edit: This question just got answered.

Thank you for the info! Very much appreciated :)

No, but filling the majority of the map makes you able to skip jump floors when revisiting dungeons.

There are no requirements for anything. Theoretically, you can turn off all auto-mapmaking features and forego drawing a map yourself, and still beat the game. Obviously, it will be difficult to find your way around.

Marking points of interest doesn't take much time, but it is of great help. For example, you might come across a hot spring or something in a dead end; that point is of no use at that time, but putting down a note makes the place easy to find again if you take on a sidequest that requires you to go to that point. Which points you consider important is up to you and it really doesn't take much time to add notes; this can also be done during battles, so you can work on your map while you are waiting for all party and enemy actions to play out during a turn. And if you are seriously lazy, there are always floor maps on Gamefaqs where you can look up all points of interest.

I appreciate your response alot, thank you so much.

However, the comment that is bolded was quite unnessecary. It's not that I'm lazy and don't want to do it, it's just that it does not appeal to me and makes me bored of it quite quickly. (Which is what happened when I played the demos) it just turned me off.

I really don't think he was calling you lazy, just that if you don't feel like doing any work there are still alternatives.

If you dislike map making, I honestly don't really see that you will enjoy this game much, as a huge bulk of this game is well, map drawing :p

Auto mapping has been in place since II, but auto drawing walls in IV. Untold 2 should have it as well, as it would make no sense to remove it but like other's pointed out, you will have to map hazards, water, ice doors and other obstacles yourself.
