Forums - Microsoft - One of the main problems of MS' first party games

Its not that Microsoft doesnt care about good looking first party games, they just suck at making new IP. It becomes devastatingly obvious if you pay attention to their offerings generation after generation. The PS3 on paper was considered the more powerful console but Sony had talented devs who could work around the issues with the system, while Microsoft handled multiplats better ( say it was a fair tradeoff if you like Sony's exclusives last gen). Microsoft never had this. They still remain uninspired to this day, but as long as third party exclusives are coming most people wont notice. :)

This shows the first party diversity for Q2 and Q3 2015.

Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture New IP

Halo 5: Guardians Sequel
Rare Replay Remaster
Fable Legends Sequel
Gigantic New IP

It's not the full story about first party games, diversity and line-ups but it do show that the publishers rely on old IPs.

Don't copy random editorials.

I like games with good graphics, but I don't see MS first party games having a problem there. The main problem I have is that they have a massive lack of AAA new IP's from first or second party.

343 will be on halo duty for as long as they exist, it's in their name. Black Tusk/The Coalition were formed solely to make Gears of War games.

Turn 10 and Forza is understandable, as there's little point making a new racing IP. Like Polyphony and Gran Turismo.

Naughty Dog, Guerrilla, Sucker Punch, Santa Monica, Quantic Dream etc don't have to make the same franchise every 2/3 years, giving a fresher and more diverse output imo.

We have Remedy with one of my most anticipated games, Quantum break, and the 2nd party Scalebound that I know some people are really excited about. But that's only 2 games...

But I trust Phil Spencer will be trying to help the situation but it'll likely not be sorted in the next couple of years.

I thought we were talking about FIRST PARTY games here. I didn´t know that indies were first party.

For most of last generation (and still to this day) the 360 had way, way, way more indie games than the PS3. Does this FACT has any relevance now that we are discussing "diversity"? Would you say that the 360 had more "diversity" and thus Microsoft because of the overwelming quantity of top tier indies?

Or may be "diversity" only matters when we add all those obscure Japanease games that no one out side Japan.

I´m also currious how you´d tell if a TYPE of game is BETTER than any other. Is RPG better than FPS? Well, probaly if it feets your narative... too bad Sony has no RPG franchise yet (may be Horizon will be classified as RPG)

PS:Do you think Dead Rising 3 and Sunset Overdrive are also bad games?

Most of what you wrote is not related to what I wrote... are you having reading issues?

I consider DR3 a good game while SO is a bit so so for me but there are guys that will love them (or hate).

Diversity is the key for any console... before, today and in the future.

No matter what genre someone likes, I can give them a great first party sony exclusive to play.

There's only 2 races: White and 'Political Agenda'
2 Genders: Male and 'Political Agenda'
2 Hairstyles for female characters: Long and 'Political Agenda'
2 Sexualities: Straight and 'Political Agenda'

I always considered great graphics as a plus feature but not an absolute necessity. Especially if it minimises gameplay and replay value. MS games have nice graphics and most of them sport replay value like no Sony game can offer. But I think cheerleaders from both camps have a different mindset and like their games differently. Ofc it's my opinion but Xbox gamers value multiplay and replayability while Sony gamers prefer storytelling, presentation and graphics. This is how I always viewed things especially when reading comments for many years but it doesn't mean it's true, just my personal observation.

I agree though that MS first party studios should be able to make new IPs.

Diversity is the biggest issue of MS.

Sony has more (even if you say not better) types of games and that appeal to more gamers than what MS has.

You will says Indies doesn't make difference but it makes because add diversity.

I see a lot of gamers liking Knack, Ryse and The Order... they are bad games in my opinion but there will be always people that love them... big end diversity is what made a bood library of the games.

PS2 was the king due these facts.

Lol last gen...

Kinect Games
Indy Games
Arcade Games
Multiplat Games
Console Exclusive Games

All those games on Xbox were considered irrelevent... things change and I like that indy games can finaly get the recognition they deserve.

Where is the ps4 sim racer? Where is the beatemup? Where is the first person shooter?

It's ok to be a fan of something but some just overdue it...

Another case of people seeing what they want to see. Few more weeks people before reality kicks in even harder.

I loved halo, gears and fable last hen but to repeat the same thing this gen...I don't think so
