I certainly hope it's financially successful. I think that would embolden Ueda and his independent team to make future projects.

As far as I know Ueda is independent himself, he doesn't have a team. Gen Design was started by one of the lead programmers on Ico I think and is made up of some of the Team Ico guys that worked on Ico and SotC but Ueda doesn't work for them.

Oh, I see. You're totally right. Ueda, Gen Design, and JAPAN Studio are working on the game. Gen Design is the team made up of core Ico and SoTC designers, but Ueda is independent of both it and Sony.

In that case, I can't wait to see what Gen Design and/or Ueda cook up next.

Those aren't lofty goals. Both Ico and Shadow of the Colossus weren't big sellers.

It seems like a game that will resonate with a lot of vocal gamers. People will buy it based on word of mouth alone, so I think it's going to be a very successful game for Sony, especially if it also scores well. I'm thinking 4 million when it's all said and done.

I am the Playstation Avenger.

I think it will do good (around 3m), so it should be enough.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

It's a very artistic and a Japanse game, I highly doubt it's even going to break even. 2.5 million lifetime

How is it in any way a Japanese game?

On a side note, Ico sold 700,000, which isn't too bad.

I am so proud to be one of those who bought the game when it released on PS2. I remember the game was running on a big TV in a videogame store, showing the poetic real-time cutscene from the intro, while many people ignoring it!

I was litteraly in admiration with that game almost instantly (we had only magazines in that time), before even playing the game I knew how important this game was.

looked pretty impressive. The game has been in development for many years, and completely changed platform a few years ago. It’s now coming to the PS4 in 2016, and its release is very important for Sony.

While the previous two games in the series, Ico and Shadow Of The Colossus were hailed by critics, they didn’t do well when it came to selling copies to gamers. Sony wants to change that with The Last Guardian.

Speaking in a lengthy interview with Metro, Sony’s Jim Ryan commented on The Last Guardian from a financial perspective, saying it’s important that the game is both artistically and financially successful.

“My organisation [Sony] did not perform particularly well with either Ico or Shadow Of The Colossus. I have berated them [the team] for this, and said, ‘We have to do better with this game’”.

He added that big games like The Last Guardian have to be profitable, because “The sums are just too big, the amounts of money are just too great”.

If you read the vgchartz article about this it makes it clear he is talking about the game selling in Europe where shadow was a giant bomb (it sold only 30,000 copies).

Check the link below. (note to Admins: it's not really porn please don't ban me!)

If he's talking only about Europe then the whole thing is a lot more achievable, global marketing is way easier for games nowadays thanks to the growth of the internet and youtube in particular.

I will sell good considering the amount of hype behind it.

Puzzle adventure games aren't very well suited to you tube viewing. You'll get an idea what it looks like and maybe bits of the story, yet the emtional connection and internal struggle of the characters, ie the magic of the games, will be lost. That's probably also why the reactions to the trailer are quite different from those that have played and enjoyed ICO and SotC to those that see it out of context.

This is one case where the lack of BC really hurts. The HD collection is awesome, yet only available on ps3 :(
I would buy it again in a heartbeat for ps4, yet I doubt Sony is willing to risk the backlash for another remaster.

Well, watched those two games, and I think I am going to like TLG. Really like the puzzle platforming stuff I saw, reminds me a bit of old Tomb Raiders that I love.

I'm looking forward to TLG much more now after watching some of the videos.

(And from my limited exposure, I like ICO more).

Same, ICO sits at #3 in my top 10 games of all time, SotC at #5 with Grim Fandango in between.
They're both awesome. The boss fights in SotC are still unmatched. What would be cut scenes in other games simply happens while you play the game. For example ducking under a structure, then the giant bends down to peer under it. Gave me chills the first time that happened.
I'm very much still looking forward to TLG, a combination of two all time favorites from a director that won't compromise his ideas.

Now indeed, a classic Tombraider reboot would be great too.

Should be able to pull it off. I am sure that if fans have wanted the game for so long, chances are that they will ensure its success.
