So Ninty is going to release a future console at $200 but can't drop the Wii U that low and this console is supposed to be 2 in 1/Fusion (aka definitely not cheaper to manufacture than Wii U)? They would have to go backwards to Wii graphics for that to even be remotely possible.

Edit: And yes they damn well do need 3rd party support.

Thanks jlmurph!

Well to a degree I sort of agree, but not entirely.

Nintendo *would* need third party support in a world where one of Sony/MS didn't exist in the game market. But they both do, and they both provide the same thing (all multiplats) ... so the need for Nintendo to be a third "me too" player in that race is redundant.

If the NX has 3DS level third party support plus maybe some OK backing from Western devs like the Wii U had early in its life cycle ... I think that would be OK.

They need to keep the system selling though so that those developers don't abandon ship like they did with Wii U.

again there is no such thing as second party, Nintendo owns 33% of the pokemon IP, Pokemon company owns 33% and gamefreak owns 33% the last % idk

There's no such thing as second party: it is a third-party working for Nintendo, but not contractly obligated to it.

Game Freak could go tomorrow and make games for the Iphone. Hal Laboratory could make games for the Ps4 and Shin'en Multimedia could might as well take some vacations.

So you're agreeing with me that Nintendo does need third-party support.

I never said nintendo shouldnt have third party support, i think very well nintendo should have alot of third party support, also gamefreak is actually working on a game that is coming to PS4 and xbox one. If HAL works with Nintendo like smash bros its nintendos IP. Nintendo just uses alot of third party devs to make first party games.

The good thing about Nintendo is that it doesn't need to sell 50m consoles to be successful because they make their consoles primarily for their games and with a healthy install base, they can survive another generation. Nintendo just need to avoid selling at Wii U rate.

Smash Bros is Nintendo's IP because Hal Laboratory has to use characters from different Nintendo's IPs to do so. But just because a third-party works for Nintendo doesn't mean Nintendo has to own the IP of the game. Going by Hal Laboratory, Arcana is a game of theirs that released exclusively on the Super Nes, but it is owned by Hal, not by Nintendo.

To survive? No. To be a big success and not be the laughing stock of the industry, again? Yes.

I'm now filled with determination.

well hmm yes there are those instances, i mean bayonetta 2 is like that, but what i mean is, ofc they still can get exclusive content, but sometimes nintendo owns IP and then third party devs can take those and make them only for nintendo

It can survive, it just won't bring in a good enough profit for Nintendo and just making a measly profit ain't going to be enough.

Send a Friend Request On PSN :P

I sort of agree with the OP but specifically because supposedly it may be a cross connector system with the handheld NX/console NX. if that is the case they will have a much easier time having a larger library quicker, and obviously Nintendo has had no problem (for the most part) pushing their handheld systems specifically with their own games

Nintendo has survived the majority of its existence without 3rd parties making a huge difference. there hasn't been one system of theirs where 3rd party games sales came anywhere near that of their 1st party sales, all the way back to the NES

200 dolars consoles ? lol

You serious?

Yes, Iwata and Miyamoto have talked about the problem with the wiiu price several times, they think is one of the main reasons why the WiiU failed, so I´m pretty much sure is one of the first problems they are gonna try to solve. Maybe is not 200$, but something close is possible.
