Forums - Nintendo - Miyamoto: We're Not Interested In High End Specs (Hardware)

Let's be real here. The console market is in rapid decline. No amount of power is going to reverse that.

What Nintendo needs to do is catch the wave leading into a paradigm shift for the industry. They missed the last one completely, and now it is Apple who has sold 800 million smart phones, tablets, and iPod touches. That was the direction Nintendo was going in 2006 with the release of the Wii and DS Lite and the sleek and easy interface, and they should have kept going that direction and come up with a new third pillar type touchscreen family of devices. They would have been hot.

The console market isn't in Rapid decline. It just lost the Wii grand mothers. Current numbers are healthy and live.

They say they want to surprise gamers with NX:

But unfortunately, in this time, you'll need some impressive graphics capabilities. No doubt I'll buy NX but I fear for its success if Nintendo doesn't change this mentality anytime soon.

As the top commentor mentioned... the only thing that can truly blow our minds is motion controls along with virtual reality.

Honestly, that would impress me and it will put Nintendo ahead of Sony and Microsft in the virtual market.

And it wouldn't be affordable or fit in line with their stance going by Reggie's words recently. Beyond the cost of the VR accessories, you'd need a lot of power to deliver top quality VR experience- 1080p/120fps native

This is the problem I have with Nintendo's future, I simply can't see any tool which they can use to expand the market like they did the Wii. They could just focus on maximising software profit and accessability through the fusion concept but in this same interview Miyamoto said they want their next system to be a much bigger hit then the Wii U. Simply having a Nintendo console with more Nintendo games won't expand their audience beyond what the gamecube sold and portability is not a successful gimmick going by the Wii U off screen and PSVita remote plays inability to push hardware sales.

I don't get it. You can have the most powerful console coupled with the best balance of features and interface.

I don't really understand the explanation or the motive given, it feels more like an excuse of some sort. Also, don't the X1 and Ps4 produce little to zero noise and heat?

X1 is cooler and quieter than the PS4 (for obvious reasons) but my PS4 is very cool and quiet so both of them are fine in that department. Bullshit is being spilled.

Makes sense.

Underpowered console, reducing costs and price and therefore risks, then add whatever new input device they come up with to try and seduce casuals until luck strikes again like with the Wii.

Low costs will see them through those attempts that end up in failure.

This is the smartest strategy for Nintendo.

Its actually the most risky one hence the Wii U's failure. NES,SNES, N64, Gamecube all managed to balance power and affordability. Investing money in something there may not be an audience for is always more risky then going the traditional route where you just compete for a portion of already established pie. Provided they sell the system a breakeven at launch I think the traditional route is safest, but it has the least potential in terms of making tons of profit

flawed logic.

It isn't about the high end race they need to aim at they need to aim at devs requirements which will get games on their console... perhaps lol...

I don't think it will match the PS4, let alone exceed it.

Agreed.

i don't agree. Nintendo in 2017 can build a much more powerful console than ps4 for less than $300 and sell it for profit. unless their next gimmick is going to be expensive like the tablet is.

are you guys expeting a expensive gimmick again this time around?

Nintendo needs a new management. Reggie, Iwata and Miyamoto need to go. They are ruining a once great company.

Me and Rol have been saying this for ages, it's heartwarming to see others finally agreeing with us. ;)

I'd agree with you, but...

Reggie should get out and be heralded as an example of what not to do for good PR. Oh, and have Bill fire him.

Iwata should step down, but mentor newer programmers. He's a fantastic programmer, after all.

Miyamoto should stay and mentor newer game designers. Oh, and he should make animated movies, since he's an animator.

I WON A BET AGAINST AZUREN! WOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

:3

looks a bit incomplete:

we re not interested in high end specs (what i actually ment was standard tech, because high end is in the range of a 1500€ PC) because we missed the oppurtunities to grow and to expand and work towards what we were, what we are and what we wanted to be.

They can but they won't.

NX Console will be largely built off portable/mobile components too I'd bet. Their job listing for a next-generation hardware designer specified they're looking for someone with experience with low power SOC components.

Another tip off that what they're working on is a "fusion" type of platform of some kind.

I think it will be more portable than traditional console. It's just that portables nowadays have enough power to pump out decent looking graphics even on the television. Just don't expect like PS4 level and certainly not PS5 level.

could Nintendo board of investors vote to have new leadership if the next console failed horribly? changing people above and direction of Nintendo can help them. There seems a direction that Minamoto wanted and doesn't want to compete but they are part of the gaming industry and also need to provide gamers the current standard. Nintendo as of the moment doesn't bring that standard and gamers wanted to use normal controllers and no more gimmicks. the balance between innovation, price and specs should be there. but they need to accommodate other developers who wanted to develop on their system. i think the core nintendo fans would love 3rd party games i doubt most people would want 2 consoles a gen.
