Forums - Nintendo - Miyamoto: games nowadays look so realistic that they all look the same

Citing "realistic games all look the same" does not explain why Star Fox looks like an uprezzed port of StarFox 64...

I think the answer to that, which Nintendo won't admit, is that beside Nintendo EAD, they don't know how to do HD era level quality and the team they hired to help Platinum Games most likely rushed it with them.

I personally think it's taken a budget cut after Mario Kart 8 and all these games being announced last year didn't set Wii U sales trucking properly. I don't blame them mind. I'll probably still get the game, always liked the proper Star Fox games and it'll still be fun if they nail the combat.

I think he's kinda talking about this:

And a more modern version:

And how about this for character design:

And yeah racing sims would be another where I probably wouldn't be able to tell you which game I'm looking at unless someone specifically labelled them.

Quite a difference from all modern games looking equal.. to all FPS war shooters having the same POV and similar graphics... It's like complaining all manga are draw black and white.

5 different games

What a crazy thing that Uncharted games looks like... Uncharted and Mario games like .... Mario. Mindblowing.

Yes all 5 Uncharted games having the same genre (and they don't look the same sorry... even when you pick all in the forest).

Compared to games of like 5-7 different genres that happen to be named Mario (and that is another point people don't like about Nintendo so you better not get there)... that is Nintendo look, not because it's mario. This is their preffered art style... but keep talking what you want.

It looks like and feels like StarFox game, so hopefully it plays like StarFox game.

Those are all Mario games. What were you expecting?

They're all different games, sometimes across different genres, that look the same.  Just saying, "but they're Mario games," doesn't set that aside.  If you have a problem with "realistic games" looking the same then you should have a problem with tennis, racing, fighting, platforming, and party games all looking the same, too--if you don't, then you are a hypocrite.

The core truth here is that a man who works for a company where many different games look the same is pointing a finger at the rest of the industry for making games that look the same.

Never mind that many "realistic games" do not look the same, especially since many "realistic games" aren't very realistic.  Halo, Doom, Deus Ex, and Fallout do not look the same.  The military shooters aside, many games have their own style which make them relatively unique.

Really, this is just Nintendo management trying to make themselves look better by putting down everyone else with generalizations.  It's what Reggie does all the time.  People who are already Nintendo fans might like it but I think it turns everyone else off.

They're all different games, but they have the same cast of characters and are set in the same universe. Honestly, how different were you expecting them to look?? I would understand if you had screenshots of games from different IP, but you don't. Mario Kart/Party/Power Tennis/Strikers/Super Sluggers may all be different games, but in the end it's Mario, and Mario will always look like Mario. LittleBigPlanet Karting looks EXACTLY like the platformers.

If "many different games" means Mario ____, then I already explained that one. If you don't mean that, then tell me if the following games look the same.

Splatoon, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, Kirby and the Rainbow Curse, Pikmin 3, The Wonderful 101, and I think it goes without saying that Metroid, Xenoblade, Steel Diver, Star Fox, etc. all look different from each other. None of these games are realistic but they don't look the same at all.

I understand this, and the same goes for non-realistic games.

This sounds like typical PR speak to me.

Well a lot of games do. As someone said when a lot of games are trying to be realistic they are going to end up looking the same. Not that all the new games look the same, their are just a bunch they do.

Nintendo Look??

The "Nintendo look" has quite variety don´t you think? Maybe you are talking about... the MARIO look?

For some games they occur in different worlds, how is anyone gonna confuse Shadow of Mordor for Watch Dogs or Far Cry for inFamous.  They all look completely different.  But if you wanna compare FPSs that all occur in similar war zones then maybe, but him saying they all look the same is just stupid.
