But they also have three of the worst games of all time. Final Fantasy XIII, XIII-2, and Lightning Returns.

Both series of games are relatively self-contained (though Zelda now has something of an official timeline connecting the games). I hate MMOs, but the existence of 11 and 14 have zero influence on my continued enjoyment of the other installments. Other bad apples (2, 9 and the 13 trilogy of shame) similarly do not have a detrimental effect, other than not contributing to my attachment to the franchise.

That's hard to answer. Zelda is more consistent. But FF has higher points, imo, that make up for the low points. So, FF.

Well I only played FF X and almost every Zelda, is Zelda obvious.

hmm depends on the criteria. So much love/hate with final fantasy. I don't really have anything bad to say about Zelda, but there was a time that i would have said FF and it wouldn't have been close. I'd have to choose Zelda now, i can be pretty sure it's gonna be a great game.

If we're just talking about the early titles until FF7 (let's just say) I think it'd be close.

Legend Of Zelda (NES) >>>>> Final Fantasy (NES)

Adventure's of Link >>>>> (the actual) FF2

A Link To The Past >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Final Fantasy 3

Link's Awakening <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< Final Fantasy 4

Ocarina Of Time >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Final Fantasy 5

Windwaker = Final Fantasy 6

Twilight Princess (many peoples favorite) to me would be <<<< Final Fantasy 7

And shit, since we only have one more LoZ to go:

Skyward Sword >>>>>> FInal Fantasy 8

5/8 in favor of LoZ overall and one tie. I know it's all opinion, but I think you'll have a hard time finding people who would prefer the actual first 3 Final Fantasies over the first three LoZs. They weren't that good. On the other hand, it's hard to find someone that doesn't love Legend Of Zelda and A Link To The Past (The Adventures Of Link had very mixed reactions, and I originally hated the game but grew to love it).

*Edit: I'm just saying if it were just early Final Fantasies and Legend of Zeldas, I have a hard time believing it wouldn't be at least close. Not that LoZ would win.

I think twilight princess is much better than Final Fantasy 7, but maybe thats because its my fave game of all time

Not exactly fair to rate my favorite gaming franchise ever to one where I only ever played spin-off Mystic Quest on the SNES.

Zelda wins by default, but even if not I would like it's adventure-gameplay over Final Fantasy's RPG elements anyway.

This is a very difficult question.

I have fond memories of both franchises, which grew over me throughout my childhood and younghood. I had briefly played FF IV, and my first "real" FF experience started with VII, which I absolutely loved, although not with some frustrations along the way. Regarding Zelda, I never knew anything about it until my father installed the N64 emulator on PC (yeah, humble beginnings, didn't have money for a console back then :P) and I decided to download the Ocarina of Time rom, which sounded like an interesting game. After being annoyed by the initial wtf where do I go now (I was a kid back then, the rom was in English and my knowledge was next to zero), and the game opening up after beating the first dungeon, I was in awe.

Fast-forwarding some years, I had the pleasure of playing FF III, IV, VI (never played 5) and VIII. I loved every single one of those, my favourite being VIII because at the time (and it still is) it struck me as the most magical game I've played, in a metaphorical sense. Regarding Zelda, I also had the chance of playing Majora's Mask, A Link to the Past, the original one and Wind Waker. Outside the original one (which I didn't really like much), those games were also an immense joy to play. A Link to the Past and Wind Waker are masterpieces in both 2D and 3D departments. I have to admit, in shame, that I didn't beat WW until a few years ago, though; mainly because I didn't own a gamecube, and I had to play at my uncle's house.

So, which one I prefer? I guess I can't really decide. For some reason these both games tend to get lots of complain, but I loved every single second of Final Fantasy XIII and Twilight Princess. I guess the only Zelda I haven't been able to properly enjoy is Skyward Sword, and that one is at the very end of the chain. However, playing Awakening DX on my 3DS was truly a joy, so all is forgiven.

I've yet to play some missing Zelda and FF games (like The Adventure of Link, The Oracle games, FFX and FFIX). If you have to force me to answer, then I'm going to say Final Fantasy, based on the fact that the VI-VIII era doesn't seem to get archaic in any way, whereas I can't seem to go back and replay Ocarina of Time. That and coupled with the fact that FF VIII is still one of my favourite games ever conceived, yeah. I say Final Fantasy.

I played both and I played them all. They are two of my favourite franchises of all time. But how can you compare them? Zelda isn't an RPG.

But for fuck's sake I'll dig in. Zelda is better because I say so.

And Zelda has Skyward Sword and the CD-i games.
