The story doesn´t matter in a game like this one. This is a generic shooter set on Metroid universe because is the only way for the game to sell something. It has not a single key element from any main Metroid game ever done, only shooting aliens, when so many fans are expecting a real metroid (2D or 3D) this is just a punch in the face.

It has the Galactic Federation. "Killing aliens" is their sole purpose in Metroid canon. That most definitely is a key element from Metroid. At least, from the Prime spinoff trilogy, which is where this game takes place.

This isn't a punch in the face. This is a spin off game. If you think this is a generic shooter, you think all of Prime is generic shooting, because this is literally just Prime combat in a bubble. This doesn't play anything like other shooters because the combat and controls are nothing like real shooters. You aren't even aiming at anything, you're locking on, which is the whole point of being a "generic" shooter.

The Prime trilogy games didn't have chibi GF soldiers. If this game wants to belong to the Prime canon than it has to use the established (and vastly superior) artstyle. But it doesn't.

The Prime trilogy has a vast interconnected world where you can explore and backtrack for new powerups or story progression. This game has none of that. There is no progression in story or powerups.

The Prime trilogy had a background story unlocked through a scan system. This game has not.

The Prime trilogy has Samus in the leadrole. This game has not.

The Prime trilogy was good. This game won't be.

The Prime trilogy had strafing. I doubt this game has it.

The Prime Trilogy had good graphics for the system they were on. This game looks awful.

This will be a generic FPS with an awkward control system because it's on a handheld.

This will be the third game in the Metroid series I'll ignore and deny its existence.

Around the Network

Not sure if it's a lame attempt at a cash grab slapping the Metroid name on it, but after seeing the gameplay, I'm starting to turn around a bit. It actually does look pretty fun and 3DS needs a game like this.

Will see how it shapes up over the next months, but I'm coming around on it.

It'll be awhile before I figure out how to do one of these. :P

It looks like pure shit, sorry

I just want to buy this game. But people want them cancel due to a slaped the Metroid name.

Mario Maker on again :|

This game isn't part of the Prime Trilogy. None of your points are relevent considering that, out side of the art style, which is the only thing that is right.

This is an in universe spin off. It. Is. A. Spin. Off.

The world isn't interconnected because the GF aren't explorers, they're soldiers. Exploration isn't their job, it's Samus'.

Samus isn't the lead role because Samus isn't the only entity important to the Metroid universe.

That's a juvenille non-point not worth acknowledging any further.

This game does have strafing. Now you're just making shit up. You either haven't watched the gameplay at all, or never played a Prime game and don't know what the strafing actually looked like.

Again, the game looks like shit. We all know that. That doesn't stop it from being a Metroid Prime game. That just makes it an ugly Metroid Prime game. I guess Star Fox: Zero isn't really Star Fox either, because it doesn't look good too.

No it won't. It has the Prime control scheme, which means you both don't know how a "generic shooter" plays, and you think the Prime games have an "awkward control scheme." In fact, it actually has a better control scheme than the Prime games, because it actually uses the right analog stick for camera control instead of the terrible way the GCN prime games did it.

No one will crucify you for ignoring a spin off game of a spin off trilogy.

You seemingly implied it. "If they're comparing this to FPS games" implies that it isn't one and people shouldn't be comparing it to fps games.

No, I didn't imply it. I'd say the same about Portal. Portal is part of the FPS genre. Calling Portal a "generic shooter" would be stupid, and comparing Portal to FPS games would be stupid, because it clearly doesn't play like them, even though it's in the same genre.

What I said was that the game clearly doesn't play like regular FPS games and shouldn't be compared to them the way they are. Calling it a "generic shooter" or saying it has gameplay "like Halo" makes no sence, since it plays nothing like that. Someone who played 1,000 hours of COD or Battlefield would be a chicken without a head playing a game like this, because it controls and plays out completely different to those types of games.

In that case I misunderstood your post. I read that post before I read your preceding post, and it came off as if people were wrong to call it an FPS. Personally, I consider it to be an MPH sequel and would classify it as an Action FPS rather than a first person Action-Adventure like the main Prime series. As for Portal, I wouldn't classify it as Action game nor the Action subgenre of shooter. It is a first person puzzle game, with the focus being puzzles and not shooting enemies. All of these games have the first person perspective but try to do something different either it be shooting enemies, solving puzzles, or exploration.

It has Prime in its name, so it's part of the Prime series. Yet it has nothing in common with it. So where is Metroid Prime, Dark Samus or phazon in this game? How else can it be called Metroid Prime? Are there even metroids in this game?

I have watched the gameplay where they trapped those ice creatures, it was cringeworthy. No strafing to be found. 3DS doesn't have dual analogue sticks, GC has, and yes I used them to look around.

I mean, yeah. Portal is a Puzzle FPS. Definitely not an action shooter. But definitely a shooter. First person puzzle shooter. It's not simply a puzzle game in the first person. It is very obviously, and very specifically, a shooter.

But my point was that I wasn't talking about genres or subgenres at all. A better example is Goldeneye. Or Doom. Or Wolfenstein. Not the newer games; the classics. Anyone calling those "generic FPS games" or "just like Halo" is stupid, because they fundementally play nothing like those games. All Action FPS games. Nothing like Halo or COD. That's what I was saying. This game play nothing like the FPS games people are comparing it to.

These all have "Mario" in them. They are all part of the same series now. Yet they have nothing in common.

All MIA here too. :-O

Yes.

New 3DS and Circle Pad Pro, yo, though I'll never understand folks who like dual analogue controls... *shudder*
