Based of the high quality of games and functionality of the hardware (yes that includes a touch screen on a std controller), it's one of the better systems

So is it the worst?.. nope

I have a feeling the WiiU will be remembered much like the Dreamcast is today, people that had one will be proud that they owned the system, and many of the people who didnt have one will wonder if they missed out on something speacial :P

It's obviously not the worst of all time, there are far more notorious consoles that litter the dustbin of history that are more than deserving of that title.

The Wii U however is the worst console of the modern gaming era, and the worst console overall since the SEGA Saturn in terms of mismanagement.  Nintendo made so many mistakes with their latest console, from the once again deliberate gimping of the hardware and putting to much emphasis on the gimmicky tablet game pad, to the very name and branding of the console itself.

And then of course there's the software... or should I say, total lack of software.  The Wii U's library both in terms of quantity and quality makes the N64's and GC's look like the PS2's in comparison.  3rd party support is nonexistent, and the 1st and 2nd party titles are a far cry from the offerings that the N64, GC and even the Wii received.  And with Nintendo's biggest franchises like Zelda and Metroid now seemingly being held back for the next generation of hardware, it looks as though the Wii U already has both feet in the grave and we're barely 2-1/2 years into its lifecycle.

It's the worst in recent generations but i don't think it's even close to being the worst of all-time.

No, it's not even close to worst.
It still has great games, and even if they don't use the gamepad much, I love the Off-Tv mode, and it's hardware is still decent when you see the DS and the Wii.

I think that if you account for all the missteps Nintendo made, and throw them out of the window, yes, the Wii U is the best console ever made!

The above statement is roughly as dumb as trumpeting increases in jobs figures by double seasonally-adjusting.

The reason they have not announced much this year is because their DEV resources are all going towards their next console, NX. They're not going to make new Wii U games.

Is the Wii U the worst console of all time?

Of course not, in fact its in my top 10 best consoles of all time and I finding its better than Wii.

-You can say that Gamepad isn't used to much, but you can't say that doesnt have purpose, only offscreen play alone is strong purpose, and there are some games that are using it in very good way.

-Yes GC had stronger third party support, but I think Wii U have stronger 1st party suport, some Nintendo Wii U games are best in whole franchises. And yes, we know that Zelda is coming to Wii U and looks it will be one of the best Zeldas ever.

I don't think it's the worst of all time. Worst Nintendo console? Probably. The Gamepad has been so extremely underutilised, and they're trying to change that with Star Fox, but for me it looks like a pathetic attempt. It's a shame, I really thought that the concept could've been expanded on but it seems that they really screwed it up.

That said, it still has some great experiences on it so far from the worst of all time, but maybe the most disappointing of all time?
