I think Sony is probably helping fund FFVIIR too, but I have no proof, I just think that they're doing it.

If they're paying for most of it then why not just make it a full exclusive.

Horrible.. 3 or 4 great kickstarter games could have been funded with this money Sony is probably gonna use to pay for coffee.. Kickstarter isn't meant for this

Kagari (an insider of all things FF) said that it'll come to PC eventually, but it's unlikely it will ever hit Xbox. Sony is involved.

As for Shenmue, I don't blame them for doing the Kickstarter. It's a niche series that's been irrelevant for fourteen years, and has never released on PlayStation. Fans talking on twitter isn't the same as actually supporting the development with some capital investment. If not for fans and Sony's involvement, it would not be in development at all and would be a completely dead franchise.

I still don't get why they thought this was necessary. It was always going to reach 2M, come on. Am I missing something?

They just wanted to squeeze some money out of the fans. That's it. And now that all of those people invested real money in the game, they will make sure to defend their decision and promote the game. Money!

You act as if they don't get anything in exchange for their money.  That's not the case.  Many are getting a copy of the game.  Others who gave less money get to help guide its development.

While I agree that Kickstarter shouldn't be used like this, the bolded is not very logical. The people who funded Shenmue funded it because it's Shenmue. It's not like this money would have gone towards funding a different game if Shenmue didn't exist.

I will hold onto hope that I don't have to buy a ps4 for the game. there has been no rock solid announcement on full on exclusivity. certainly will start out ps4-pc as the kick starter was selling only copies for those platforms, but you have to pay attention in these things.

These companies brag openly about their deals when it's never being ported to another console.

He would have said something stronger than "we're definitely going to be a partner" if it was more to it.

More then 30% are repeating backers at kickstarter so yeah at least a large amount of money could have went to another project.. I'm worried about kickstarter.. More and more are calling it an abuse when multi billion dollar corporations are using it like this.. This is harmfull for smaller projects

While it is possible, Sony would be pretty generous funding and developing Shenmue III, only to let it be released on the competition. If it weren't for Sony the game wouldn't even exist.
