This is awesome news. I really dont want to fund though until I see a physical ps4 release even if sony will release one. I guess I'm being selfish but I don't want a digital copy and I don't want a pc physical.

What I want to know is how Yu got Sega to give him the rights to make Shenmue 3. There has to be money involved in that one, I don't think Sega would just give up a franchise for free.

Most of the interview is about Morpheus, but he does answer about Shenmue.

Seems that SEGA was willing to let him make Shenmue 3 under condition that he makes this Kickstarter. Sony of course helped by giving him valuable prime-time advertisement for free.

I wouldn't call it selfish, you want a physical copy, that's not really unexpected this day and age.  Digital still has issues.

Well here comes the trend of using kickstarter to get interest before making any game. Sony should not be using Kickstarter to get a jump on the funds needed to publish a game.

That 'gauging interest' line sounds like BS to me. Of course there's interest. But launching a Kickstarter just means you've essentially milked your hardcore fans of more money than they would have spent on the game itself, not to actually see its viability in the global market.

40,000 people doesn't show global interest, it just shows 40, 000 people who are willing to put up 3 million dollars of their money to fund a game. So congrats in getting 3 million(or however much they end up with at the end) extra towards your development I guess.

It makes me actually wonder how much it would have gotten if Sony hadn't announced that they were backing it as well. probably would have been at 3.5 or 4 million by now I think.

So, where is the problem? Are you concerned about what people you don't know spend on stuff you don't care about.

The reward list is public, people know exactly what they are paying for, and if they are willing to pay $10,000 for a dinner with Suzuki, why does it bother you? You can always pay nothing, just like I chose to do, wait for the game to come out and buy or not buy it then.

Cool

Well that explains a lot.

Dude thanks!!!

Good from Sony to bring this game alive. I hope it will stay as Playstation 4 only.

It was a niche title that didn't sell the best. Sony needed to see interest before committing. Smart move.
