Forums - Sony - Sony has just confirmed that now that the Kickstarter goal has been reached they are in fact helping with funding and development of Shenmue 3

Well, it will be coming to PC, even Yu said that.  But, with Sony being the primary funder...not sure it'll go anywhere else after that.  :(

What a heel turn! With a snicker and twist of its mustache, looks like the pearly radiant purity of Kickstarter has been tarnished by the dastardly Sony zaibatsu! What unimaginably terrible deed will this conniving corporation stoop to next?! Tune in 2016 for the next exciting installment of Gamer Drama: "VR PR Sends Gamers to the ER!"

In all seriousness, if you backed this project hoping for a XB1 or Wii-U port without stretch goals for such a thing being expressly listed yet...well, I'm trying not to judge. At least you can reduce your investment to $1.

I did enjoy Shenmue a lot and I even played 2 on DC so if I don't have to buy a PS4 to play it, I'm all good.

All Sony need to do now is get the rights to stream the original Shenmue through PSNow.

The PS5 Exists.

What I want to know is how Yu got Sega to give him the rights to make Shenmue 3. There has to be money involved in that one, I don't think Sega would just give up a franchise for free.

That 'gauging interest' line sounds like BS to me. Of course there's interest. But launching a Kickstarter just means you've essentially milked your hardcore fans of more money than they would have spent on the game itself, not to actually see its viability in the global market.

40,000 people doesn't show global interest, it just shows 40, 000 people who are willing to put up 3 million dollars of their money to fund a game. So congrats in getting 3 million(or however much they end up with at the end) extra towards your development I guess.

It makes me actually wonder how much it would have gotten if Sony hadn't announced that they were backing it as well. probably would have been at 3.5 or 4 million by now I think.

I hope they release HD versions of the first 2 games or something, I never got to play them.  If worst comes to worst I guess I can look up the story on utube.

That was unprofessional in my opinion.Probably alot of people gave money for it hoping that, since it was on kickstarter, it could come to other consoles, even if it was showed during the sony conference.Still, im happy that Shenmue III is getting the money necessary to make a truly wonderful game.

Even though the kickstarter in no way shape or form mentioned any other platforms but PS4 and PC? They didn't even accidentally entertain the idea of it coming to other platforms. No one mistakenly put a stretch goal mentioning other platforms, so I really don't see how this idea of other platforms came to be. It would actually be fraud and unprofessional if it DID come to other platforms since they banked on owners of the largest platform group seeing a chance for a console exlcusive and backing it.

Thanks jlmurph!

Fastest game to hit $1m, ever (1 hour and 42 minutes).  And it just passed the 3m mark, with 30 days left.  I think it's probably a given that it'll reach all stretch goals, at this point.

You can imagine the discussion if it would have been MS doing this with Shenmue 3. Internet as we know it would've crashed :).

So in realitity, this whole thing for you and I can only imagine others is less about it being a kickstarter and just you being unhappy its Sony doing this and not micro? Smh

Thanks jlmurph!
