Forums - Nintendo - So That Nintendo Conference...Yeah...

It was simply a poor press conference and there's no way around it. But I don't want to echo what everyone else here said.

I think the interesting thing to note from the conference was that they were still devoting key resources to the 3DS, whereas they were only making cheap budget titles for Wii U. XCX has been in development for a while, which is why it was the only true AAA game present made primarily by Nintendo, but other than that appeared to be a lot of of cheap, quickly developed games that they tried to make appear bigger than they actually were. Mario Maker, Mario Tennis, and the Amiibo board game clearly were very cheap to produce. With the... 'questionably retro' graphics of Star Fox Zero, it is apparent that that was also made relatively quickly. The fact that it is also being co-developed by Platinum further frees up Nintendo's development resources. That said, Yoshi's Woolly World is the most beautiful thing that has ever been made and anyone who insults its grandeur is a communist.

That then leaves SMT x FE. Again, it's being created by Atlus which further frees up development resources. All I can say about that game is that, like Persona 4 Dancing All Night, it appears that Atlus has the magical power to make a game that is an absolute abomination of nature be something that I am viscerally compelled to play. It is very apparent that the Persona team has no direct influence on the game, because its blatant lack of any artistic style whatsoever, hypnotic and nonsensically gauche colors, completely out-of-place Vocaloid-esque soundtrack, and gloriously in-your-face fanservice makes this game look like it's going to be something of a majestic trainwreck -- something that is actively detrimental to gaming as whole, yet something absolutely everyone should buy a Wii U just to play. (Note: this same assessment also applies to Persona 4: Dancing All Night).

Ultimately, I think I was left feeling kind of sad. The subtext of the conference was that Nintendo had clearly already given up on the Wii U -- and it doesn't seem to be ending with the bang it should.

I dont know what Nintendo was thinking of this. I mean, its like they fuking fired or left 80% of the people working for them.It made my day VERY BAD

Pocky Lover Boy!

i was really thinking they had some secret weapon that was gonna blow everyone away. 3 swords adventures and metroid soccer is a little underwhelming.

I don't follow. The new 3DS games were all deliberately using as much as they could from older titles. The new M & L game was even stealing from two older titles. Not that this should come as a surprise, seeing as how Iwata specifically said they'd be using this strategy to increase their release volume.

Nintendo had better hope that the NX is able to bring in the casuals. Pulling the plug on the Wii U like what we saw at E3 today is going to lose Nintendo a lot of loyalty from its core fans. If Nintendo's next console is not super popular and if it depends on the loyalty of fans like the GCN and Wii U did to sell units, I'm afraid that it's going to be a very short-lived console.

We saw today that Nintendo is choosing to make the Wii U its Sega Saturn. I hope that Nintendo knows what they are doing...

Please look forward to NX time for....anything.

(By Nintendo standards, this conference was pretty bad outside of a few exceptions).

To be fair, Nintendo recently stated to their fans that they were going to continue supporting the WiiU.

And they still are. Nintendo made game announcements, new and old, today. They're just siphoning of resources onto the NX while they're at it.

I suppose this is a good point. I suppose I was focusing more on the volume and demographic of the new 3DS games when compared to the Wii U games as opposed to the reusing of assets. That said, the new games on both platforms seem to deliberately be reusing assets from games, with the exception of the new "Metroid" game.

I do think it is undeniable that they are winding down on both platforms, but it seems that they are deliberately trying to get more out of the 3DS than they are out of the Wii U, for obvious reasons.

Horrible conference. Worst one I ever saw tbh...

You're talking nintendo only, right? because sony and MS hold the record on pathetic E3 conferences.

That's not what people take from that statement. These are not quality games they announced. You can't just make anything just for the sake of making it, and then call it a day and say you fulfilled your promise. People expected something. Anything. Of worth. And they're not getting anything like that.

It would have been nice if the WiiU went out with a bang, and not a wimper.

Nothing about the Wii U was a "bang", in a good way. To expect Nintendo to invest millions upon the already millions they invested in a console that gives them nothing or close to nothing in return is fantasy. Nintendo is a business and giving the fans what they want, which is support for a failing console, is a thing that they are doing. If their support isn't "bang" worthy, that's to be expected.
