[3DS] Winter Playtimes [Wii U]

Around the Network

Motion Control is present in all 5 systems this gen (PS4, XB1, WiiU, 3DS and Vita), so I don't think it's a fade, just not a BIG deal that every game has to use... more like a cool option, or window of possibilities for some games. 3D, on the other hand, is really becoming more and more irrelevant in gaming.

But regarding VR, I'm not sure, but I think it'll be more like motion control: almost every system will have it, but will ultimately end up being an option or a cool extra.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

Motion controls and 3d are here to stay as well. They were just the first steps towards VR and will be implemented into it.

Everyone who's tried VR has been amazed by it. This is just the beginning.

I think so, but not now. So far, the VR I've been seeing does not seem very promising. It'll be awhile before VR takes off.

I think that VR is here to stay in gaming and eventually move into other areas of entertainment/applications. It really depends on many repeats they have of forza's demonstration. If quality games are released to support it throughout the gen, it will do very well but like many others have said, we'll see.

Being a fad doesnt really means it disappears, but that it's popularity gets much smaller really quickly.

Which means that by your definition, it'd probably be a fad. A feature that becomes a part of a market that is largely the same rather than a defining feature in the future.

I like 3D, but for the tiny bonus it gave, the price tag was usually quite steep.

Motion control's time was very limited.  Most games didn't end up using it, (even on the Wii) and few games ever used it to its potential.  If an awesome game actually ended up being made for it, I think things would be at least a little brighter for motion controls.

As for VR, it mainly hinges on a few factors.

1.) The quality of the headsets, if they are poor they will turn away many prospective buyers.

2.) The content, need software to take advantage of the hardware.

3.) The price = can't be too expensive.  ESPECIALLY if the software isn't there.

If all these line up, then VR will end up huge.  The big question is will they line up?

How often do things line up perfectly in gaming? We cant all be PS4's.

Well, if that's a fad, then almost every feature is one too. So yeah, going by that logic the VR will be a "fad".

Yes. And unlike 3D and motion control, I think VR devices will be DOA. I'm sure a few people might buy it at launch but it won't become popular.
