I have no use for anything from someone who'd use The Witcher 3 as a measuring stick
Unless you're measuring something sticky

Witcher 3 is an amazing game so you shouldn't be surprised they're being compared.

Actually.. I was mistaken. There is indeed a use for it. If someone thinks Witcher 3 is good and Xeno boring, that means Xeno must be awesome. Should have realized that earlier. Get hype!

This is the opposite of nearly every single opinion I have heard from players and reviewers. Something sounds fishy.

Actually, scratch that.  This is the same publication that reviewed Xenoblade without finishing half its core content.  Wrote them off a while ago.

Honestly, I kind of seen this one coming after the big interview where he called Xenosaga a failure. This was also something I was concerned about when Nintendo picked them up. That studio is mainly about story and music. Gameplay has always been a distant third, but then they decided to fuck up both 1 and 2 in favor of 3.

Congratulations! Twelve missions in a JRPG this massive is a failure.

There aren't 12 missions. This has been clarified numerous times in this thread.

I'm talking narrative. Not in-between filler "pre-requisite" quests that need to be done simply to actviate a quest flag. That's MMO trash quests.

12 charpters.

When I first got the original xenoblade on the wii I was blown away by the amazing graphics and feel of the game but as I played at times I wasn't enjoying it that much and didn't like the combat. Still there were great moments that justified the time spent and I was enjoying the characters and story. It was a flawed game for me and certainly not a favourite game of mine.

I suspect I might have the same reaction to X but lets face it there aren't many games on wii u that push the hardware and this is the best there is. I'm hoping I will enjoy combat more than the original. Perhaps my slightly negative experiences with the original will help me with my expectations of this game. Sometimes its good not to raise your expectations too high. To me it looks like a technically amazing game (for wii u) with a few gameplay issues.

Thanks for your response
  • I think he acknowledged that "There a numerous side quests to be done in between story missions—one or two of which are usually prerequisites for starting the next story mission". Also, taking a long time to complete a task doesnt necessarily mean he had a satisfying(meaty) experience doing so. This is his job so I guess he has to play games for a significant amount of time before he can even write about them. Which leads to...
  • Just how engaging (varied, complex, interesting, fun etc) are regular sub and side quests? Particularly those that aren't labelled "simple".
  • Tricky, your word against his. Why does it take so long to level up and get a mech? is that time spent on quests or "grinding"?
  • Nothing to say here
  • "The combat and overclock systems just fine, the storyline is fine, not amazing but certainly not boring either" fine as in good, very good or excellent. There's too much room for interpretation here and RPGs are usually judged as a whole. This isn't like Bayonetta where you can dismiss the story or characters as not important for example.

As I initially said expectations in the RPG genre as a whole have been raised, will the game meet those expectations? If Dragon Age Inquisition was released today for example, it would score a hell of a lot less just because of everything introduced in The Witcher 3. The main point of this thread was to find out how western reviewers and customers would react to the game post Witcher 3 (lol)For example, character relationships, dialog, npcs and side quests will never be looked at the same way again. Many people are talking about it, even in Fallout 4 discussions [on GAF at least].

Lastly Amazon.co.jp has 493 reviews for Xenoblade Chronicles X(3.5) and 530 for Xenoblade Chronicles(4.5) so I'll still lean towards those till further notice [Amazon bias]. Just how big are those other retailers?

I would never use Amazon Japan as an accurate measure of a game's quality.

Official Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Thread

I'll let them have the benefit for now, but if it comes out to 12 hours of main story and 80 hours of mindless button mashing. I will throw a fit of rage.

You're still wrong.

Based on the impressions over at Gamefaqs i'm not. So i'll take the word of a reviewer and those people over a random comment at VGChartz. The plot is short and far in-between with middle man missions inbetween. How is that hard to understand?

"Kotaku"

Click-bait, i don't go here.
