The marketing and titles have been good, but not enough to merit being so far ahead in the console war. MS and Nintendo fucked up so royally hard that Sony looked like the clear choice from the get go. Sony home consoles have always dominated the home console market (I'm talking sales, quality is obviously debatable), with the PS3 being a big hiccup due to their own fault as well, and even then, Sony was able to turn it around and go toe-to-toe with the X360.

It's still early and the X1 could gain a lot of ground playing their cards right. As for the WiiU, it will continue to grace us with top-notch titles, but there is little hope for it.

The only time the weren't comfortably winning a gen, the whole gen, was last gen when they screwed up. Sony has always been the console to own, otherwise. This gen, Microsoft screwed the pooch early on, and it cost them dearly.

The money they lost disagrees with that.

The PS3 was a bigger fuck up than the GC.

Dunno why every other comment is being quoted but this one is being ignored. It is the reason PS4 is winning out the gate.

It's the same reason that the PS1 and 2 dominated, and is the reason the PS3, launched at $600 was able to "sell more than the 360 did at the same point in its life time" (popular mantra by MS right now, although PS3 sales were apparently "horrible" at launch, so comparing to 360 shouldn't be all that impressive) and take the #2 spot, even after launching a year later.

PS4 launched cheaper than the direct competition (MS) and had the same thing going for it that made its predecessors successful? And its total competition (MS and Ninty) completely screwed the pooch? Sony wins by default in this scenario.

Because they were smart enough not to bring a loaded gun and shoot themselves in the foot while they were at it, meanwhile MS was waving it's gun about and shot itself in the process while Nintendo was staring down the barrel of it's own gun wondering what came out on the other side and decided to check that discover out earlier than the other two.

Really hope by next gen the other two decide to focus on their strengths and not try rocking the boat too much, bring their A game and then we can have a gen where all 3 can be neck and neck within each other than having just one victor and two lesser losers, creates for such a boring gen when that happens.

Playstation will always dominate, the only time they don't is when they mess up launch.

An amazing start. Unfortunately it is going purely based on a snowball effect with friends buying what their friends have. Also Europe and Japan having a Playstation disposition from the get-go.

Agreed. Sony doesn't "beat" the competetion so much as they just sit around and wait for the competetion to screw up and then coast on their mistakes. 

Been that way really since the first Playstation kinda just won by default versus the Saturn and N64.
