I plan to wait at least 6 months after launch then decide.
I'm happy with Windows 7 right now. I don't like the tiles, and even "less tiles" is still too many tiles.
I deleted the files so the advert would stop appearing in the taskbar.

I have an i5 with natively installed win 8 I cant see icon HELP!
Make sure all updates are current. My brother was having problems until he finished an update.
When I find a version of Windows that's stable and gets along better with my HW and SW, I try to keep it as long as possible. I was fine with Win 2000 and not happy to have to switch to XP when W2k extended support ended, OTOH I was more than happy to switch from XP to Win 7, as XP had some quirks with my HW and SW. Currently Win 7 is the best Windows I ever tried, so on the desktop my next windows will probably be 11 or even 12. My next notebook, OTOH, will most probably come with Win 10, no problem with it, as it will be taylored by the notebook producer, XP too was far better on my notebook than on the desktop.
Been using W10 preview almost exclusively for a few weeks now so I hadn't noticed. Thanks for the info now mine is reserved. Need to do this on my other machines as well.
They still have quite a few things to fix especially in the UI but it's coming along quite nicely and July 29th is right around the corner!

Win 10 has so many improvements from both 7/8(8 had many improvements over 7 but too many poor UI changes) The OS runs smooth, my PC has suffered less crashes since switching from 7 to 10. Currently on Build 10041. Windows 10 is 'free' forever. There is no subscription model. The only way that a subscription model would come in is if they introduced it and you decide to buy it. As it stands it works the same way as every windows version beforehand. The 1 year is a one year period that you can avail of the upgrade. @reggin_bolas If you are able to run Windows to download and install this then it should fix whatever problem you are having. However if you are unable to run windows you won't be able to access the reserve page. You may need to upgrade from a disc/usb drive. Installing an OS works from the boot menu so if your current version of Windows doesn't work, it won't effect you installing or reinstalling a new version of Windows. I use this technique to 'fix' computers all the time |
I do often wonder what people are doing in W7 for it to be crashing multiple times, my current laptop is just 3yo and has never crashed, my previous one was originally on Vista but I upraded to 7 about 1 week after I bought it back in 2009... I think I recall it crashing twice, both times when trying to run Mass Effect which it clearly wasn't capable of. My games consoles have crashed more and they are meant to be stable systems.
(XP on the other hand I definitely remember crashing a few times)

I believe you need to apply and install the recent updates to the computer. Icon wasn't appearing on my taskbar. I then updated the computer and I got the Windows 10 reserve icon.

I did all that and nothing happened. I even tried to get the icon to appear via the command line, but no dice =/
