ugh finally got 1000G in Far Cry Primal. Getting 80 collectibles and maxing out XP required quite some grinding in the end.
Now for my final verdict:
According to TrueAchievements (and other sites) it took me 29 hours and 30 minutes to get 1000G in this game. The game file itself says 21 hours 30 minutes, but that might not include loading times, deaths or even cutscenes. I might have idled a bit here and there, so 28 hours sounds a bit more realistic.
Graphic-wise this game looks fantastic and plays very very smoothly. For an open world game there were very few glitches. Some repeating ones I had was my tamed Great Scar Bear falling down dead without any enemy contact, mostly when walking through camps.
About the gameplay, it's not much different from the other Far Cry titles, with the exception of not being able to shoot with any guns obviously. Weapon variety is naturally limited, but does its job. The game takes place in Oros, which strangely has almost the exact same map layout as Far Cry 4 (really look it up!). It still feels incredibly different, so I can't complain on that. Nothing about it reminded me of Kyrat.
Taming animals or rather the act of using tamed animals is fun, but also flawed. They like to stand in your way and they won't move an inch, unless you command them to get away from you. In case of my Scar Bear, he liked to run directly in front of me, so I had trouble seeing anything that happened in my line of sight. I also don't know which guy thought it was a good idea to put 3 animal actions (petting, riding and feeding) on the same button.
The amount of animals to ride on is also limited. Strangely it's not possible on bears for example.
Your mission and side mission objectives are similar to other games in the series. Claiming outposts and bonfires, which both allow you to fast travel. Rescuing captives, using hunting skills to find missing people, killing a certain type of animal in a region, are just a few of them.
Story-wise it's a bit more limited and there's no real ending. You basically have two enemy groups and you can kill their two leaders in any order you please.
The game still has some good and unique characters though, but the big issue here is that there aren't many story missions that can concentrate on them.
Overall I hugely enjoyed this game. It has a bit less content than previous Far Cry game, but 25+ hours is still a respectable amount and the gameplay feels just right.
