I still have to hammer the deal out come Monday, but I think I will have good news for the briefing. Expect no news on the first project until 2018 though... And the later games around 2019...
We're NOT making a fast WIP of a game like many Indie studios are trying (for starters, at this point our fledging team is more of an startup than an actual indie dev).
I will leave behind what's done so far...
- First project is a JRPG aesthetic game. Open world, party system and a combat system intended to replicate the Soulcalibur experience are among the things I can say.
- Called Project Hesperia (throwback to Tales of Vesperia).
- All models and textures are ready.
- UI looks a bit like the Halo multiplayer UI. No MP or healing items. Battles are fast paced and take health conservation and "overheating" of weapon usage into account.
- Yes, there's character creation and a medieval fantasy world map (we have hammered out models for two world maps. One represents the cities in our world, where Act 1 will take place. It takes around 15 hours. Rather than one large map, each city (Dublin, Iceland, Paris, Madrid, Rome, Milan, Athens, Istambul and Moscow) is a small map around the size of the "Boston" area of Fallout 4 (models for the largest city, Paris, are roughly the size of Boston-Cambridge-BOS in F4.
- The fantasy world map looks green (not done yet) but we're slated to obtain a map around the size of Skyrim, perhaps slightly larger. There will be less foliage and dungeons, but the cities will be roughly thrice as big.
- Because this is a big graphical load already and we're holding on to Xbox One specs (we're using something like a dev kit, but we're not ready to tell MS we're sure this will be a thing) do not expect awesome graphics. Better than Skyrim SE but slightly worse off than The Witcher 3. We're commited to 30 FPS and 1080p on it.
- Aesthetic might -and this is a big IF- be modifiable. As far as we know, the aesthetic is the same as Soulcalibur V, photorealistic with distinctly Japanese effects, but will include a ToV styled mode with cell shaded graphics size permitting.
- Finally, I am forced to remind you everyone that besides being a JRPG for the JRPG starved Xbox One, this project also started partly as the modding community's way of sending a statement forward to Sony due to them forbidding the use of .bsa files on Fallout 4 and Skyrim and also as a way of sending a message intended to deter mod theft to console mod users. It's the main reason our team was able to exponentially accelerate development and obtain a lot of funding and manpower. We intend to make an statement on behalf of the mod making community that mods should be regarded as games are and that trying to limit their scope due to security concerns was pedantic on behalf of Sony. We hope this game hammers the message home. It's also the reason we decided to allow mods and are planning to hammer a deal with Nexus to allow them into consoles if possible. Remember that if worst comes to occur and the game most be cancelled, you can still hope to see it as a mod for Fallout 4.
- Due to the above, this game will not be released on PS4 until there's a reversal of Sony's policy. At my insistence, it will not happen until they promote a localization of DOAX3, which I felt was axed due to political correctness. We're also trying to show we refuse to cross our arms and watch social justice warriors trample over our creative rights and freedom for the sake of promoting an agenda. Until both of these conditions are met, do not expect a PS4 release. Sony doesn't allow .bsa files on their mods. We will not support Sony.
- I feel I should also mention we might or might not adopt a similar policy regarding Steam's servers and Nintendo.
- Also, I better mention this. My colleage has mentioned something regarding peculiar interest in making a game for a certain Asian French series. It depends on whether he can arrange a meeting or not with Thomas Astruc or keep interest on this, but he told me if I ever made a statement where I came clean on this thing, I should mention it.
- In short, we use BSA files, this might or might not happen. It will happen as a mod if not as a game and there might be ventures in the company if it survives stress.
- Inside the game, there will be surprises. Music will feature some big names. Some definitely will come from Japan.
