If he'll continue in Phil's direction, it's okay, otherwise it's a disaster. The last thing Xbox needs is another change in direction.

Interesting, though I think the reason is that they will add 2k17 next month. |
Yeah that definitely makes sense. I saw an announcement today that WWE2k16 will be taken off as well as MGS5 January 31st although we knew metal gear was only for a few months anyway.
lol NBA Live 18 only $7.50 right now. About 4 months old.

I like what I'm reading with all the news from Matt Booty been promoted to "Head of Xbox", along with some of the quotes from Phil, It sounds to me like the position is effectively the head of Xbox but watered down a little with the new senior management role Phil has taken on still calling the shots on what is been developed with Matt taking on the majority of the studio management/logistical side of things.
I especially like the mention about expanding the studios and I hope this eventually leads to each of the big studios staffed up to run 2 big projects at a time, It would also be nice to see if he takes on a role to staff up and create a new first party studio entirely.

Ryuu96 said: I think they'll definitely attempt to purchase Playground Games, maybe they don't see the point in it right now as Playground is as close to first party as they can be anyway with two active contracts (Forza/Fable) and a studio basically bankrolled by Microsoft's funding

Ha MS got a deal for another game after SoD2 still?

Yup, It was announced before State of Decay 2 was revealed (2014) that they signed a multi year, multi game contract with Microsoft so whatever they do after State of Decay 2 will most likely be exclusive to Xbox too. |
Ah nice that bodes well for next gen then as well presuming they go onto their next game late 2018 they will release another game in 2021, 2022 at the latest, Hopefully State of Decay for X1 wasn't one of those titles from that deal :P

They make State of Decay 2 in 5 years after original and you think they will make next gen game in 3-4 years?
The thing about The Coalition second game(helping some other studio) being new IP or Perfect Dark. It actually might be some kind of reboot of Perfect Dark with some name attached to it and might be mistaken with new IP. In one of the comments from the leaker post in resetera, he sounded like they havent started the productionof the project and may just be a prototype. Maybe The Coalition is co developing this game with Electric Square(them being so small studio I cant see them being the only developer for AAA game) or Rare.

Oh man, I completely forgot about that I wonder if they'll ever go back to attempting the State of Decay MMO when they get bigger, as was the original plan but it was scaled back to just 4 player co-op, I always thought that was a bit too ambitious for them anyway to go from State of Decay to a full blown MMO, State of Decay 2 feels like more of a natural jump. I'd prefer if they did something different after State of Decay 2 though for Microsoft, a new IP or one of Microsoft's abandoned IPs. |
I think it will of been part of that deal but they could of signed a deal for more than 2 games.

The first year after launching on the 360 they ported the game to PC and produced the 2 DLC packs, That multi game deal was announced early 2014 so at the earliest SoD2 production would of started is mid 2014 which would be 4 years dev cycle. It could of been late 2014/early 2015 before SoD2 went into development depending on what resources they put into bringing SoD to Xbox One.

The problem is that State of Decay 2 looks like a remaster of the original so far with improved graphics and some new stuff added. Unless they make State of decay 3 after that then maybe you can see it in 4 years, but I would think they will try a hand in a new IP or Microsofts IP with a lot better visuals.
