Famitsu interview with Head of MS Studios Publishing Shannon Loftis

https://www.famitsu.com/news/201711/10145815.html

Assuming the google translate is correct, and I doubt it could screw up the translation by this much, she confirms that she is working with at least 1 Japanese developer on an Xbox exclusive right now. They better not cancel this one like they did Scalebound xD

Hope they announced it at the right time, IMO Scalebound should've never been announced in the first place.

Why not? What if the original target was 2014? Even if it was 2016 from the beginning, that isn't something out of the ordinary for the gaming industry.

This project was killed by the developer. We don't have to look for ways to blame Microsoft. Platinum failed to deliver, as simple as it sounds.

I don't think now is a particularly good time for MS to be investing in a big time (assuming that's what it is) Japanese game. Xbox simply doesn't have the audience that will support it enough where such a product is worthwhile, and one game isn't gonna have all the fans of Japanese games that play on PS or Nintendo jump to buy an X1. MS needs to drop a few big time games that their general audience can get excited about, while showing Xbox sceptics that they do care about proper software support, and then once you have some actual SUCCESFUL projects under your belt and gained some trust.....THEN you can go splurge on some big Japanese game. Funding one now is likely to be a complete waste that discourages MS from funding more projects of the sort.

Worst case would be Japanese and single player. Kill Microsoft's faith in both with one stone.

Maybe it will be a smaller game that doesn't have to sell a lot to be successful and even if it's a big budget game if MS releases it on steam it might sell good enough. Provided it's a good game, of course.

I agree with all of those. An Otogi reboot would be very popular since From has become famous now from Souls, it is quite difficult just like Souls I've heard. Was interested in the Phantom Dust reboot and was sad to see it cancelled. Loved both Crimson Dragon and ReCore so I'd definitely love to see sequels for those.

On the thought of a Creative Assembly exclusive, that fake Halo Horror game leak about playing as a civilian on a Flood Infested ship was a really cool idea imo.

Ms should really partner with SEGA since they are already working with Creative Assembly and Relic Entertainment both owned by SEGA, they could pitch the idea of Creative Assembly making a horror reboot of House of the Dead or possibly Condemned as an Xbox exclusive (according to wiki Jace Hall owns the IP and not Monolinth and he said that he was looking for the right studio to possibly develop a sequel). They could also try for a Panzer Dragoon JRPG and they would need SEGA for a Otogi reboot since I believe that they own the rights.

Thing is, thanks to the infamous ntkrnl leak, we know that Scalebound had only entered development about 7 or 8 months before MS announced it with the CGI trailer at E3 2014. MS very clearly announced it early because they wanted to say "hey, we have a Japanese exclusive too". Problem with announcing a game that early is that there is always a risk of it not working out and it being cancelled, and then you will have gotten fans excited for nothing, which is exactly what happened.

Not saying that Platinum isn't at fault too, especially if these latest rumors about them diverting funds from Scalebound to Nier are true, that's super low if they did that. Reminds me of Gearbox, they did that with Aliens: Colonial Marines back in 2008, diverted developers from Aliens to Borderlands 1 while claiming Aliens still had a full dev team and taking the full amount of money from Sega.

For your first paragraph, even if the leak was true, I don't think there is angthing wrong with that. Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo do this every E3. Why do we blame Microsoft for 3rd party developer failure to deliver, quality and time wise? I can go back to 2016 E3 and find many games that won't release this year from all three companies.
