Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony now Calls the PS Vita a “Legacy Platform” Outside of Japan/Asia

But we've seen more Vita localizations than ever before. There are many things to complain about, but localizations on Vita is not one of them.

They  are in two points. First, there are still several good games stuck in japan with no localisation confirmed (Tales of innocence R, God Eater 2, wtc. Check the Vita thread for a list on the poll). and second because Sony has not bothered to localise a single one. They made no effort beyond their own releases.

But that's not entirely true. We know that they work with Namco to get Tales of Hearts R localized. They've built out their 3rd party relations team for the purpose of bringing over games like Hearts. While Hearts is only publicized Sony involved localization, I believe that they're assisting in some way to get some of these titles brought over.

I'm rather enjoying my PSTV for games like Tales of Hearts R and Freedom Wars. I hope someone might bring Tokyo Xanadu to the US at some point.

Sony has tunred into an absolute joke in the mobile industry. There is no other company with the resources and brand power they have that could have ever botched things this badly. It seriously takes someone trying purposfully to fail this bad.

They have a huge library of mobile patents they aquired when they bought out the Ericsson. Then there is the massivly successful PlayStation Brand. They have one of the biggest and best digital stores in PlayStation Network. They build the best hardware in the world, and they develop content and software for Music, Movies, Photography, Video Games, and more.

All of that, and what do they have. A wasted attempt at a handheld gaming console in the Vita, and a phone line in Xperia that nobody wants, and that takes zero advantage of the above.

The flat out stubbornness of not creating a PlayStation Phone, and not expanding the PlayStation brand beyond entertainment is going to be the death of the entire company. They let Apple and Google come out of nowhere with android and ios and absolutly blow them away at their own game, and here we are nearly 10 years later, and they still have not responded.

If they do not put out a PlayStation Phone on their own OS in the next 12 months, then they can shut the door oon PlayStation Now, PlayStation Music, PlayStation Video, and PlayStation Vue. Nobody is going to use PlayStation services on Samsung, HTC, Apple, LG, etc., etc, etc, devices. And, building a brand around a competitors OS has already bit them once, so why would they do it again. Xperia is Vaio all over again. They can not expect PlayStation network to live side by side with Google Play and Itunes if they are doing nothing to try and pull people away from those ecosystems. People spend 24 hours a day with Itunes and Google Play. PlayStation Network is limited to free time when people are at home. This is not a winning formula.

The reason WIndows Phones are struggling and Blackberry is only starting to pick up is because thier unique OS.

Windows App Store is bone dry.

Blackberry World is missing a lot of key stuff and they needed to get the Amazon Store on thier phone to get Android Apps to survive.

Nobody's gonna buy a Playstation Phone

Bring on a massive price cut so that I can play all the PS+ Vita games I've been hoarding for a few years. I won't need to buy a single game.

Platinums: Red Dead Redemption, Killzone 2, LittleBigPlanet, Terminator Salvation, Uncharted 1, inFamous Second Son, Rocket League

They tried to convince them to bring the game over by showing the poll results. I dont think it went farther than that.

Poor Vita. Such a great little device that I bought close to launch at 250! No regrets though! I love that little guy. Just wish Sony did too :(

Wrong. It was just for the Ps Vita 1000 model. LINK: http://venturebeat.com/2015/05/27/sony-clarifies-legacy-platform-statement-our-portable-business-will-be-continued/

Well, the 3DS and Vita combined won't touch GBA sales.

Maybe not in the U.S., but they will almost certainly pass the GBA in Europe, and the 3DS alone already passed the GBA in Japan last year. Like I said in my previous post in the thread, the handheld market in the U.S. was disproportionately large during the GBA (and GBC) era. I think combined 3DS & Vita sales will handily clear 80 million and will likely approach the 90 million mark.

So it's definitely a smaller market, as there is the N-Gage, Wonderswan and Neo Geo Pocket to add to the GBA sales for that generation.

Combined they sold only 8-9 million units lifetime. Maybe enough to tip things in the GBA-era's advantage.

The 8-Bit Gameboy models sold over 115m units,

Over a 13-year span. 52 million in four years for the 3DS doesn't seem too bad in comparison, does it?

The handheld market isn't doing as bad as some are making it out to be. It's completely unfair to compare anything to last gen's 270+ million handhelds sold, and it's entirely because of the U.S. that the 3DS may not match the GBA in terms of global sales.

If things aren't bad in the handheld market. Why is there absolutely NOTHING on the near horizon for the 3DS in the West? 3rd parties haven't just stopped making handheld games for shits and giggles (though I know a few are convinced there is some anti Nintendo conspiracy). There is quite simply very little money to be had other than the odd evergreen exception.

RIP Dad 25/11/51 - 13/12/13. You will be missed but never forgotten.

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon? Fire Emblem and Bravely Second's inevitable localizations? Animal Crossing? Plus, Zelda and Xenoblade was just a month or two ago.

Dont game consoles traditionally look barren right before E3 too?
