Hmmm. I'll go with horror, shooters and flight/mech simulators. Those genres I think would be the easiest for devs to create VR games for and I think those would be of the highest quality because of that.

The people have spoken! Simulation, Horror and Shooters will define VR gaming.
Edit: I hope they are wrong.

Is there any non-first VR game currently out? Just curious as to whether they are viable.
IMO to get the most immersive VR it needs to be first person where you are sitting down or stood up in the game world.
This is why I think that we will see a new Tom Clancy's HAWX game that is VR ready, announced this year, maybe at E3.
PS, PS2, Gameboy Advance, PS3, PSP, PS4, Xbox One
Something like Myst. Were the player can slowly wander around and solve puzzles.
I wouldn't be surprised if Myst series will make a comeback very soon on VR.
| vivster said: All proper Morpheus games on PS4 will run in 1080p at 60fps, the same performance that the PS4 is already capable off. So I don't know what you're referring to. |
So the current 2D titles are only using half of the GPU power available on the PS4??
Nope. Of course titles will run in 1080p@60 BUT the graphics fidelity will go do to something like Wii U levels.
Many say that this wouldn't matter as the VR experience makes up for that. BUT as others like FaceBook will enter the VR terrain the BIG way (= own console with REAL Next-Gen AMD APUs) - WHY not have BOTH: VR AND "pixel quality"?
So Morpheus is "too little too late". As a result Move os Morpheus all over again...
| Dusk said: The likes of Wii Sports and Kinect sports. Maybe some party games and stuff on rails. |
I have doubts about that.
Did you play Wii Sports - or better Wii Sports Resort or Wii Sports Club (Wii U) ??
If you're doing it "right" (speak: you're engaged which being these titles are all about) - you will move your bodys position within the room.
Moving your bodys position while wearing a VR headset is recipe for desaster bigger than broken Wii Mote straps

plenty of.vr.games.in third.person. It works.fantastic with VR actually better than alot of firdt person shooter's. Which are too.fast.paced.for.vr.
I could see people wanting to play racers with it. Especially those who invests in steering wheels etcetera. No Man's Sky would also be pretty glorious in VR.

As you say, VR will work great with games that can use peripherals to enhance the experience, like steering wheels and pedals for racing games or all the flying joysticks with simulators like X-Plane or sim/arcade like the IL-2 series.
Also, given that these gamers are already used to buy more gear to play their games the way they like it, they are also the best candidates to be early adopters of VR headsets if the experience is worth it.
Please excuse my bad English.

VRs best games imo will probably be experiences not like usual videogames. But more like walking around in fantasy or real life scenarios and discovering things. Its so interesting just to walk around in VR and see the world. Discovering something following a great story is awesome, atmosphere is going to be super important. Detective games or just storys ala telltales walking dead however with actualy being there. Heavy rain stile games without clunky controls but you being able to manipulate everything directly like in real life.
VR opens up games it will be fun to do things that were boring until now. .I can imagine it would be freaking awesome to be an undercover spy in the third reich. Seeing Hitlers parades. Or going to the moon. Being just in rome and witnessing the life there. Being on planets with new civilications. VR should be approached like the matrix not like a videogame thing. Like a Holodeck. Ofcourse now it still relies on videogame crutches however in ´20 years it will be an entirely different kind of experience. Playing videogames will happen aswell on virtual tvs and virtual consoles on the surface of mars with the sun exploding in the back ground. Playing Mario while the mars atmosphere evaporates from the sun going supernova. Rocks flying around.
I think virtual spaces will exist persistent universes that costs 500 million dollar to develop with millions of working hours going in to create unbelievably deep worlds and people will pay fees every month to be there.
