Well, this isn't the best year for the 3DS, but the system isn't dead. The thing with the 3DS schedule this year is that it doesn't have as many heavy hitters as 2013 or 2014. 2016 will be a better year with Fire Emblem IF and western release of Youkai Watch (and hopefully something for the N3DS) will improve its sales. After that, the NX will get most of Nintendo's attention.

Why do you talk about NX, the NX wont be releasing anytime soon

If we follow your logic the XBox One is almost as dead as the 3DS.

Yeah, totally the same situation!

The Witcher 3, Batman Arkham Knights, The Elder Scrolls Online, Madden NFL 16, MGS V, Mad Max, Rainbow Six Siege, AC Syndicate, Halo 5, CoD Black Ops 3, FIFA 16, Rise of the Tomb Raider, Star Wars Battlefront...

Just want to point out that I am fully aware that there are in fact some games coming for 3DS (and also games coming for Wii U additional to the ones I mentioned). I'm obviously talking about major releases here, which for example, I don't count Lego Jurassic Park as.

It's very reminscent of the Wii in 2011, but without Zelda to look forward to.

I said "if" we follow the OP's logic. IF. One more time "IF".

"If" you don't undestand the meaning of the word "IF" and the context it was used it will ruin your capacity to analyze text.  All of that you wrote was a waste of time. I suggest you to read again my post. A hint: the 3DS isn't dead just like the Xbox One isn't. I believe it will be easy for you now to understand.

No, you're wrong and Conina is right. If you had actually followed my logic the Xbox One is alive and healthy and the 3DS is looking dead. Conina correctly identified that I was looking at it from an upcoming games basis, rather than a sales basis (though without big hitting games, we can expect a sales decline to follow)

"If we follow your logic" is used in similar situations, but in this case the announcement situations are very different.

Then let's define our terms. I think we generally agree on the trajectory, but I'm not sure we can have a discussion without knowing what does and does not qualify.

I don't think Nintendo is going to keep the 3DS beyond 2018.  the 3DS and N3DS will coexist with the next Nintendo handheld only a year or two, specially if the next handheld (or fusion) is backwards compatible with 3DS. I said the NX because I think that concept will be the fusion idea.

Also, Nintendo could keep the system alive in the west for a couple of years simply by convincing japanese developers to localise their games. They could have a monster lineup with all of those unreleased japanese games: Dragon Quest VII and VIII, every Youkai Watch, FF explorers, Tales of the World Reve Unitia, Digimon World Re:Digitize Decode...

You know it deserves the GOTY.

the new 3ds is in a pecular spot. nx is believed to be a hybrid console although not confirmed but iwata has implied it. there has only been a few games thst have used its upgraded capablities so im not sure where it stands. they could write it off by the end of next year. kind of dumb to produce a system with so little support. hopfully nx will come out in 2017 and we see some support for new 3ds at e3
