Not as odd as Nintendo's lack of support for that console. I'm just observing the total lack of big-hitting games that we know are coming to the console. I'm sure that will change come E3, but aren't we really expecting Nintendo's E3 to be more centred around the Wii U rather than 3DS?

To make my point, let's first examine what Wii U owners have to look forward to between now and the end of the year.
It's not a lot to be sure, but let's contrast it with what the 3DS has to offer:
Hmm. 3DS does have Fire Emblem If slated for 2016, but that's pretty much it. For a console that got a new iteration this year, that's pretty awful. Now, I know that E3 is incoming, but this isn't just a shortage of games like we're seeing on the Wii U - this is a superdrought. Surely to bring any respectability to the 3DS they need to announce 5+ new big games for it at E3, which I do not see happening. I have to say I really thought Pokémon needed a year off, but it looks like they'll need to wheel it out again this year just to save the 3DS this holiday. So I've said my piece, what do you think? Dead or alive? |
the 3DS just had LoZ: Majora's Mask, Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate, Codename STEAM, Fossil Fighters, SMT: Devil Survivor 2 Record Breaker, Xenoblade Chronicles 3D. There hasn't been one month so far where it got no games. They might not be "big" titles, but not every game will be.
Also, the 3DS has upcoming Monster Hunter Stories, Stella Glow, Fire Emblem If, Bravely Second, Final Fantasy Explorers (if it gets localized), LEGO Jurassic Park, Yo-kai Watch (Which IS getting localized), Rodea The Sky Solider and the inevitable next Pokemon game (X2 and Y2 or Pokemon Z or whatever they decide to do)
Then we have a bunch that will be announced at E3. It's Alive and strong.
ALSO: The Wii U has LEGO Jurassic Park, LEGO Dimensions, Guitar Hero Live, Project CARS, Devil's Third, Fatal Frame V, SMT x FE (Which is coming this year to Japan) Rodea the Sky Solider, Mighty No. 9 and Legend of Kay Aniversary this year so far. Make sure you add them all.

Mine's been dead for over a year now. I really should buy a charger for it...
A system holding consistently the 2nd position in hardware sales and 5th in software sales isn't exactly dead. Some people buy a game system for the catalog it already has you know... If we follow your logic the XBox One is almost as dead as the 3DS. And lets not forget the 3DS is a 4 years old system whereas the Xbox One isnt even 2yo.

I think the strategy in positioning the 3DS is shifting towards more F2P titles, which get a lot less fanfare on their announcement/arrival. I think they're angling for some kind of F2P mega-hit on that system rather than going for more traditional releases. |
Is anyone actually looking forward to the FTP games? most people can get all the FTP on thier I pads or similarand are looking for something different for thier 3DS
3DS is definitely on the way out unfortunately.
I think they made a catastrophic mistake with the N3DS split. Instead of releasing a new mostly useless iteration that faced an impossible dilemma :
(a)- release enough new software that really took advantage of N3DS power to make it worth buying (which would piss off tons of people who bought a 3DS/3DSXL over the previous couple of years for sure)
or
(b)- release barely any new software that takes advantage of it, making it something of a superfluous waste of time
The price is the key. If they had dropped 3DS to $79, and 3DSXL to $99, and packed them with Pokemon and Mario bundles, they could have jump started the 3DS to insane numbers. Few people want to spend nearly $200 or more on a portable these days.
Just mho, I like my 3DSXL, but I'm never buying a N3DS, and the lack of major franchise titles is disheartening.
