Forums - Sony - Hindsight is always 20/20, Sonys 2013 PS3 lineup was a huge mistake...

Given the PS4's success I can't really tell Sony anything they've done has been a mistake.

There's only 2 races: White and 'Political Agenda'
2 Genders: Male and 'Political Agenda'
2 Hairstyles for female characters: Long and 'Political Agenda'
2 Sexualities: Straight and 'Political Agenda'

The Last of Us would've been the perfect holiday 2014 title for the PS4 I think. The PS3's swan song could just be GTAV.

It really wasnt. That ps3 line-up was what made the PS4 a sucess. It proved PS home platforms will always deliver and be worth it in the end. It earned alot of consumer trust and hype for the ps4.

I see your point Nebel, but it is easier to say now. Could Sony have foresaw the hit TLoU would be?

I mean, the game is actually boring sometimes during the first half and i doubt most of the executives played that far, if at all. They wanted to close with something big, so they decided to bet on many horses. If they knew they had such a good horse beforehand, they could've let it run alone, but they didn't knew.

I agree that i didn't expect the situation to become like this, but i don't know if bringing GT6 or puppeter for PS4 would change it that much.

nothing wrong with that line up only thing wrong was that that ps3 wasnt and still isnt available for sub $200

It's a mistake that nobody can help, but then again if it have a different scenario only God knows where PS4 sales now, we just need to be grateful that PS4 selling like a cake, no system launch is perfect, what is important is looking in to the future.

Could it be used as an argument stating that Sony had no idea that the PS4 was going to sell as good as it eventually has? They prepared to live with the old generation for a couple of years while the install base of the PS4 slowly was rising. If they think that not even GT6 can sell a new console and instead put it on the old with the potential large audience.

EDIT: I sense a lot of bad grammar in this post.  :(

The only mistakes I see there, was making GT6 for PS3 and Tearaway for Vita instead of PS4.

TLoU had to be a PS3 game. The sales prove that.

Pretty much this.

If the PS4 was failing to sell then perhaps TC you would have a point. But PS4 is currently the fastest selling PS console without any chance of completely stopping its domiance on this generation of consoles. Sony showing that it is willing to support their previous console is not only a staple of the PS brand, but a sign that all their market demographics are important to them. As Nem says: consumer trust and hype for the PS4 is what Sony is getting here, and that will only  help their sales when the current PS3 sales decide to finally upgrade.

GT6 is probably the only game you listed that could have benefitted as a PS4 game. But why? GT never launches with a PS device and for very good reason: its a game that actually sells hardware upon release (at least the first main itteration on each gen) and would be wasted on a period (launch) where the PS4 was obviously going to sell well regardless.

Hindsight is 20/20 in some cases, but not in this one. There are a good few 1st party games already released (5 this year so far), and with more to come.

I find the notion that the PS3s 2013 lineup of games outside of maybe TLOU has anything to do with the PS4s success naive at best and completely ignoring what is actually going on in the world at worst.

Sly Cooper (a game I completely forgot about btw.), GoW: Ascension, Puppeteer, Beyond Two Souls, R&C and GT6 being 2013 games did nothing for the PS4 all of those games did poor or at least poor by the standards of their series in terms of sales (aside from maybe GoW considering it's a spinoff), half of them were completely overshadowed by the next gen launch and they all helped Sonys first party to seriously lag behind in next gen output.

Why should Knack be canceled? it sold pretty well and keeps selling
