Forums - Sony - Hindsight is always 20/20, Sonys 2013 PS3 lineup was a huge mistake...

Although I agree it would have been awesome if some of those titles were cross-gen, they were probably started in 2011 or even earlier, and it would have been risky to devote time / money / resources to do so.

Also, I think releasing those games provided Sony with a huge amount of goodwill. I am sure that many gamers saw how many games were releasing for the PS3 in its 7th year on the market, and compared that to Wii and X360, and it helped them either switch to PS4 or stay with Playstation.

Weird, that gamble is exactly what Nintendo and MS did, which is why they can both claim of themselves that their biggest studios either have released new games on the system already or will have by the end of the year, by your logic companies shouldn't ever ditch their old systems. There might be some point to not taking a gamble like that with a huge franchise as a launch game (which is why I said that GT6 should have been cross gen and that TLOU should have stayed on PS3), but smaller games like R&C and Puppeteer or spin off GOW games are exactly the type of games that you should take these risks with, because they can actually benefit from the lack of competition on a new system more than from a huge userbase, I mean have you ever checked out the bloated sales numbers of launch or close to launch games?

Do you think Knack would've sold what it did, had it released on PS3 Or Killzone SF? Or how about Resistance and Motorstorm had they released on PS2?

If they were worried about their system not performing as well at launch then that would've been even more of a reason to actually get those games on the PS4 instead of keeping them on the PS3, after all games sell systems right? No, Sony just planned that whole thing extremely poorly which is only even more underlined by the stupid release dates they gave 3 out of the 4 titles that I'd have rather they had pushed to the PS4.

Oh and the games are Screamride and ROTTR vs. MLB The Show 15

I m Confused Is it about first party development or Sony Publishing. and by your logic releasing God of War 2 and SoTC on PS2 was a mistake right! not to mention they were remastered later on.. I dont know what to say when u believe TLoU should have stayed on PS3, sales no. speak otherwise.. Yes about smaller niche game, it will no doubt get a significant boost, but that will offset with remasters.

And which part are your not able to comprehend or do you have insider information that sony has nothing to announce at E3 for 2015??? and jumping onto conclusion that they should counter Halo 5.. Even if Sony Announce The Last guardian for next year at E3, that will be huge in terms of Hype it have going into this fall

Scream ride, ROTTR, VS MLB, Helldivers and BigFest... So no.

completely disagree.

sony supports their (home) consoles to the bitter end. that's a big part of why the ps4 is selling so well,.. unlike the other guys i can trust sony to deliver not deliver just launch year. their 2013 lineup is a perfect reminder of why i love sony and playstation.

I'm sorry but I completely disagree on the PS3 2013 line up having anything to do with the PS4s performance, aside from maybe TLOU.

If the PS3 2013 lineup only consisted of TLOU, MLB, Beyond and cross gen GT6, would that have looked like lack of PS3 support to you?

well ps4's 2015 lineup consists only of the order 1886, bloodborne, MLB, until dawn, no man's sky, alienation, fat princess, hellblade, tearaway unfolded, the tomorrow children, nom nom galaxy, god of war III remaster, what remains of edith finch, amplitude, wild, and whatever they announce at E3 and that lineup is worth ranting about how shitty sony's dev/publishing has been...

so yeah, that lineup would probably be worth burning sony's corporate headquarters to the ground over.  fuck those guys amirite!?!

You wouldn't be confused if you actually read the freaking OP, it is about both, Sony is involved in both. And yes both SotC and GoW2 should have been on PS3 at launch, they were just fortunate enough to turn out good enough to actually warrant being Remastered, do you seriously believe GoW Ascension, Puppeteer or R&C Into the Nexus are going to be remastered? None of those even remotely warrant a remaster and looking at everything that's been said GT6 isn't going to be remastered either.

And I don't see how sales numbers speak against TLOUs release on PS3, the game sold 7 million+ on PS3 and in general I have not said that Sony shouldn't have supported the PS3 in 2013 anymore at all, TLOU should have if at all been a simultaneous cross gen release.

Considering the bolded part I don't even know what you're talking about cause none of that has anything to do with my post.

What an extremely mature reaction, really sorry that I'm not blissfully acting as if everything that Sony does is totally perfect, how dare I try to strike up a critical discussion. Oh and how about you make a list without including games that are obviously not going to make it in 2015 the next time, ok?

about that bold para, my bad I assumed it was your other thread. but in my defence that has the same agenda. Puppeteer yes should be remaster its a brilliant game. GoW ascension if it was a brilliant game would have gotten a remastered same thing goes with Nexus.. But guess what Both of them are getting a remaster version but a different number. So its better to put out quality titles than medicore ones. And your Ascension and Nexus on PS4 and get the bad rep of Knack. Also ruin the Ratchet Tie in movie.

And the sales Number for TLoU on Ps3 is 5.5 on ps3 and 3 mil on PS4 and if you say other wise, that will hypothetical.

I dont get it, on one side you say all these "bad exclusive" titles should have been PS4 Launch titles and on the other side your crying over the quality of PS4 exclusive released so far?

TLOU shpped over 7 million on PS3 last july.

How would GoW Ascension and R&C Into The Nexus on PS4 have influenced the GoW 3 Remaster and the R&C Reimagining in any way? GoW 3 isn't even being remastered by Santa Monica and the R&C Movie tie in game must have either started development after Into the Nexus was finished or been developed by a different team anyway.

Also why would those games have gotten the same bad rep as Knack, on what basis are you saying that, there's really no reasoning behind it.

And I'm saying those games should've been launch titles because, they are actually not bad games (they are just no masterpieces, they'd still have been good launch titles for the PS4) and because they'd have done better as launch games, also it mean that those studios would have gotten extensive experience with the new hardware at an earlier point.

Nope, I'm fine with how it was handled. From the games you listed I bought all but R/C and liked them a lot. And knack is a 85, I took 15 because of Diamonds collecting.

TLoU 7 mil on ps3 that means PS4 2.9 mil doesnt matter? and shouldnt be on PS4!

I assume you dont know this. The reason Acension was on PS3, because at that time SSM had a Huge New SCI-Fi IP in development for PS4 which got cancelled in 2014 as it was too similar to Destiny . And if Acension would have been a critical hit, it would have gotten the remaster treatment, not GOW3.

Ratchet & Clank nexus was obvious because Insomniac had to finish the story they had started with tools of destruction. And could have easily confused new player and wouldnt have helped the movie which is based on the first R&C game.. and going to give new direction to series going forward possibly taking it away from Insomniac.

GT6 was about testing the new engine they have built which also be used for PS4. Also not leaving PS3 with only one GT title in 10 years and most importantly not cannibalize DC sales.

First sentence, how in the world did you arrive at that conclusion, stop putting words into my mouth.

Of course I know that they were making a Scifi IP (the fact that that game got 4 years into development before being axed is another sign of mismanagement btw.), how would that have been a reason for Ascension on PS3, if both projects were made simultaneously what speaks against both coming to PS4? And what point are you trying to make with that Ascension thing, I was not asking for it to be remastered.

R&C really wouldn't be the first series that continues a story over games that span different platforms, that would really be a flimsy reason to keep it on PS3, the movie and reimagining thing could also easily be dealt with.

Like I said, GT6 would have been better off as a cross gen release, so it would have still come to PS3, DC could have been scheduled for a release a year later, it ended up needing the time anyway.
