For he had, as it was observed, this peculiar talent and artifice for gaining men's affections, that he could at once comply with and really embrace and enter into their habits and ways of life, and change faster than the chameleon. One colour, indeed, they say the chameleon cannot assume: it cannot itself appear white; but ... , whether with good men or with bad, could adapt himself to his company, and equally wear the appearance of virtue or vice.

Can you imagine how 2017 would be like for a 30-40k weekly selling console, with Nintendo already putting their teams on the next console?

Do I have to imagine? We see it every time nintendo transitions from one console to the next. It can easily be avoided by doing cross gen for the first 6 months of their next console to allow for a smother transition.

I'm not concerned about if Wii U lasts past NX or if NX has enough games in it's early days.

As you said, it's more than known how Nintendo handles the transition from one console to another.
The difference is things were never this bad. Even with GC they still had 3rd party support - even if not the best games.

If Wii U goes past 2016 without a replacement you can count with pratically no games from Nintendo in 2017 (Wii had no games from Nintendo in 2012 and 2011 wasn't better either) and this time 3rd parties woun't be there to help with quantity either. It will be a disaster and the Nintendo appeal will become even less.

We are already seeing that happen.
Last year Nintendo announce several games for 2015 (8 i think). This time you didn't have a single announcement (so far, 3 games are coming out in 2016: FE, Zelda and Project Treasure).
It's not that there won't be a single 2016 game announced until the end of the year, the problem is that we are already seeing how the future Nintendo home console is already messing up with development times.

Also, i do believe that 3DS needs a replacement, but if i had to choose, i would bet on Wii U as it has less chances of surviving in 2017.
Wii U is without a doubt in a perilous situation and if you can't replace both like it happened in 2001, then, replace Wii U.

Just do what I do, somehow I have miraculously not been moderated for flaming the fuck out of Nintendo for the last five days.

Where was all this sick 3rd party support when I owned a GC :P. GC was pretty much the same as Wii U: modest 3rd party support (that was missing key players from the get go) that declined sharply not too far into the gen and then completely imploded about halfway through the life cycle. Stop pretending the GC was this mainstream machine with third party support and all, it wasn't.

NGC wasn't a mainstream machine sure, but to say that its situation with third parties was the same as the WiiU is laughably wrong.

Sure, NGC didn't got the big third party series at the time, Metal Gear, Grand Theft Auto, Final Fantasy mainline games) and such skipped the system but there was support.

The NGC still had a great collection of third parties, many of them even exclusive, the good Resident Evil games of the time, Final Fantasy Chrystal Chronicles, Tales of Symphonia, Metal Gear Solid The Twin Snakes and a wealth of Capcom games like Viewtiful Joe and PN 03, even when support dwindled by its last years it kept getting games, annual sport franchises didn't abandoned, FIFA & Madden appear on the system through the end, so did wrestling games and through its life it enjoyed plenty of great multiplats, Tomb Raider, Hitman, Sonic all appeared on the system.

Boy, it`s been awhile since I been here. I got to lvl 20 on Splatoon and got all the slots on my gear. Yay... x )

It wasn't as bad, true, but it was pretty dang bad.  Especially the second half.  The major advantage is the sports franchises sticking it out; the abandonment of such simplistic annual franchises is a shameful display for Wii U.  But the rest?  Some select standouts, some of which Nintendo money-hatted :P .  And that's Nintendo's major mistake with Wii U:  they forgot that to make money, you gotta spend money.  If funding 50% of the port costs of COD, Madden, and AssCreed (examples) is what it takes to get things going, that's what it takes.  Like the games or not, their presence  is crucial to platform image and ultimately success of any degree.
