But in the case of Prime, it's superior controls.  I mean, I don't feel that way about any other motion controled game.  Like, I really like Skyward Sword but the motion controls at best are just different, not better, and there are some gimmicks that are bothersome.  But Metroid Prime?  The motion controls, imho, markedly improve gameplay and flow.

For Prime yes I'll definitely agree it's superior as that's the one thing motion controls are good for, though quick precision aiming is not really that important in this game. My issue isn't just how it's implemented, but also how you have to use it. Gotta sit upright keeping the pointer on the screen and having enough room around your arms to waggle, so I can't just kick back and relax. You'll think this isn't a big deal of course, but it is! I cannot stand anything that even slighty hinders my gameplay experience for there are too many games out there that don't do this for me to deal with some special snowflakes. I don't use 3D on 3DS for this reason, as even that 1 second screen blur that happens every so often is completely unacceptable. Don't even get me started on XCX! I only still have that game in hopes the price jumps like the Wii one did.

You can play Prime Trilogy and other Wiimote FPS titles when slouched back and relaxed, I do it all the time; the trick is that instead of holding your arms up, I rest them on my legs.

It's not the quick precision aiming, it's the ability to look around freely while moving. It allows you to move much faster and more smoothly in the game.

And what's wrong with XCX?

Motion controls are great when well implemented.

Skyward Sword had amazing motion controls that brought a new level of immersion into the game, but of course it got somewhat gimmicky so it wasn't necessarily a direct improvement over traditional controls. Still amazing though.

SS is my favorite Zelda game but I wouldn't call the controls amazing, sure they worked but it wasn't anything out of this world.

The biggest issue I have with SS is that they didn't have enough restraint.  If they had kept motion controls limited to combat and some very specific things and not put them in all sorts of other little things, it would have been much better.

Yep exactly. Wiimote is actually very responsive, so with light moves and using my legs as support, it's not tiresome at all. In fact, Wiimote is so light that I can play for hours easily.

I tried MP2 in my GC and I can fairly say now that Wiimote does wonders to the games. It's not even a fair fight xD. Also, I agree with your examples, those were games when motion controls do wonders. Seeing your avatar, I remember how immersive my Fatal Frame experience was because of that too.

Exactly, I love what they did with them combat wise, but was it really neccesary to include them for every action, like flying with a bird? That got annoying really fast

There are certain games that just wouldn't be nearly as great without motion/pointer controls in my opinion; not just the Prime Trilogy, but Splatoon, the Mario Galaxy games, Sin & Punishment 2, etc.

See, I actually have my list of games greatly improved by motion controls limted to like, a handful of games.  Rail shooters, Metroid Prime, and Skyward Sword are about it.  Super Mario Galaxy could have been easily designed without motion controls and still been just as incredible.  And Splatoon I play with the sticks and it's still really great.  If they refined those controls, it would be just as good without motion input.  Though I am willing to bet that Switch will have gyro controls in the Grip and Pro controllers.  Though I don't know if it will be in the Joy Cons

Mario Galaxy still would have been great without motion controls, but for me, the tactile joy of propelling Mario into the air or smashing an enemy with a flick of my wrist, or using the pointer to sweep up star bits or fling Mario from sling pods, made the experience even better than it would have been with just buttons and sticks. If there was a classic controller option for the Galaxy games, I wouldn't even consider using it.

I must say I'm also in the vast minority because I've enjoyed SF:Zero controls, and I put 30 hours in the game. I can now say that I'm capable of doing tricks that are not possible in any SF game. I still think that mandatory motion controls was a bit stupid.

I know there are ways, but that I have to be in any sort of specific position rather than whatever one I want to be in is the problem.

You can do that with twin sticks though.

I'm not using a magnifying glass to play a videogame. >_>

It's not any more specific for me than with any other kind of controller. Whether it's a dual analogue controller, Wiimote + Nunchuk, or the Gamepad, I can either hold it elevated, or rest it in my lap.
