Forums - Nintendo - Sonic Boom (3DS+WiiU) Sold 620k... No Matter What Thats a Huge Success :S

Sega of america had layoffs, downsized, Sonic brand damaged. I dont think theres any way to call it positive.

Sonic 06 sold millions and i think it was actually a good direction for Sonic in terms of visual style, but the problem with Sega is they dont take delays. Game is coming out when they say wether its complete or half done.

Thats why Sega is in a self destructing route, and has retreated to mobile F2P games to take advantage of the easy targets. Its a company with no direction. They cling to life where they can and have no vision or plan to turn things around.

If F2P games ever get government regulated, as they should be because quite honestly they arent very different from gamblng and they should protect theirs citizens from it due to the extreme ease of acess and no plateaus, then these leftover cynical companies will be over.

I'll be the first to be glad Ultimax sold well enough.

Sonic Boom is a sales success while dozens of other titles barely make any money. Sad.

McDonalds is a massive success while my 2 local schlotzsky's closed down due to lack of demand. People....

Those are decent numbers, and I'm happy for SEGA but they really need to push out a quality Sonic game.

I still have hope they can make something good. Sonic Boom was a mess.

Since when is 620k shipped for two different games a success?
The game is $30 and has been for the whole quarter.

It was certainly better than knack and sonic 06.

That's not much of an accomplishment. ;)

No it isnt. But the way some people talk about knack.....

Sonic 06 I added because some people point out that sonic 06 has a better meta than sonic boom.  Sonic 06 is just a shit sonic game. sonic boom is an average platformer brought down because it stars sonic but isnt a sonic game,

I heard the 3DS version was decent though. So maybe not all is lost?

Yep you are 100% right. Was sonic boom anything other than a middle of the road platformer? Nope. Did it deserve 25% scores it got from critic?  Certainly not.

Seriously most people calling it one of the worst games ever have never played it. It was certainly better than knack and sonic 06. But it wasn't the sonic game people wanted so it's shit apparently

Wait, that's not hating?! I was expecting hate after the comment I made!! No, seriously, I'm happy I'm not the only one who thinks that way. Your description fits the bill perfectly: it's a middle of the road platformer that features Sonic (but could have easily featured any other character than Sonic).

I only played a little bit of Knack and din't play 06, so I can't judge those games. The only thing I can say is that the part of Knack I did play (and didn't really like) was that it was VERY linear. I may try it again at some point in time though. Sonic Boom (on WiiU and on 3DS as well) gives you the possibility to explore things from the get go on both platforms. There's not a whole lot to do, but if you want to look for hidden gems and spare parts or just go to the next level on 3DS? You can. if you want to go to the next level or epxlore the overworld a bit more on WiiU? You can. I didn't expect much from these games when I booted them up, but I did enjoy that little bit (though little it is) of freedom they offered.

It's not one of the worst games, but I can understand people because it may represent an aspect of gaming they have loathed ever since the first middle of the road platformer based on a popular franchise came out (back in the day mostly movie franchises). As you say, that fact does not make it a bad game necessarily. It just makes Sonic Boom somewhat of a remnant, somewhat of an anachronism. Because: How many movie or other IP tie ins do we still see? Maybe that's the reason I'm defending it. Because, together with Pac-Man and the Ghostly somethings, it's one of the few platform tie-ins we still get. And because I may be getting a bit old

knack is a linear beat em up, not platformer, that has some maddeningly bs difficulty problems. Horrible game saved by being a console exclusive around launch. It's blasphemy that people talk about it as a throwback to games like crash bandicoot that were actually good. Has nothing in common with them.

It's funny because I really shouldn't be defending sonic boom. It's not really worth the effort. But everytime I see people on this forum talk about how it's one of the worst games ever It annoys me because I know not a single one of them has actually played it lol

Lol.

That game is a goddamn failure and doesn't deserve a single cent. Other than that, congratulations.
