Forums - Nintendo - "Rollers" are the Little Mac of Splatoon! Not OP :o

100% agree! Roller is balanced! Spreads ink just as fast it dies!

I use use stealth as a roller and make my way behind or to a persons blind splot(spot, but splot sounds more inkish lol)

Can comfirm.
12 kill 3 deaths when the other team have 2 rollers

Far from OP people just aren't reacting properly to it, rollers have to close in on their target so a splatershot while backing off and returning fire counters them quite hard. At the moment players are running around like kids in a playground in the game but when you start looking below the surface and analyzing things start to pick up and you start catching other players out.

You also start adjusting mentally to how you should react to certain weapon sets as well as start reading the habits of players who use them.

with the 2 hours of playtime i already know how to counter them, just go into squid form because you are faster that way and then go back up and shoot them, repeat and win, when you get the hang of the game and controls you will start to get into the deep metagame

Rollers can do a lot of damage if allowed to cover big areas without resistance but due to their lack of ranged weaponry it's quite easy to suppress them. Corner a Roller with a Charger and he's screwed. I'm pretty sure that Roller's will become ink-magnets pretty quickly and with players getting better at aiming the Rollers won't last long on the battlefield. They're also only effective on ground not already covered by the team so they'll always have to be on the frontline. Plus, merely running around covering areas at random might work initally but once players gets more experience with the game the Roller's ability to create "supply lines" will become more and more important and so skill will be what actually matters in the end.

Ninja roller is tough. Plus ambush rollers. There were some who waited around the corner until I came around. I ate roller more often than not by turning the wrong corner. The wail wiped me out too. It out ranges everything so its run or die against it.

The problem with Ninja roller is that they aren't covering turf when they are hiding...the main point of roller is covering ground, so technically Ninja roller is either extremely defensive or sub optimal.

I treat it as 2 different tactics or modes myself. I did the same thing with the splattershot jr. I went between just trying to cover everything and when a enemy appeared I'd shift to combat, which involved lots of shifting and movement. The ninja roller guys went right back to rolling after popping out of the wall and smashing me.

Yeah, it felt OP last night, but today people were more prepared for it. It's the easiest to just pick up and own with, but once we all get our bearings I don't think it will be a problem.
