The problem with Ninja roller is that they aren't covering turf when they are hiding...the main point of roller is covering ground, so technically Ninja roller is either extremely defensive or sub optimal.

I treat it as 2 different tactics or modes myself. I did the same thing with the splattershot jr. I went between just trying to cover everything and when a enemy appeared I'd shift to combat, which involved lots of shifting and movement. The ninja roller guys went right back to rolling after popping out of the wall and smashing me.
