Forums - Gaming - Sequels vs New Ip vs Reboots

Which one do you want the most?  Many of us will say new ip, but the numbers say differently.  Maybe this is the case of a heavy minority for forum goers and the mass market.  That isnt to say that new Ip hasnt done well this generation, but it is becoming more clear that publishers are more and more hesitant to invest in new ip vs sequels

You also have reboots which are basically new ip using a familiar name or face that hasn't been around for a long time.  Killer Instinct and the potential Medieval game is an example of this.

Here is a few games that has sold over one million on a single console (Ps4/XBO) this generation that is a new Ip or reboot (Numbers we have access to)

Titanfall
Watchdogs
Destiny
Killer Instinct
Ryse: Son of Rome
Driveclub
The Evil Within
Knack
The Crew
Bloodborne (Im sure it has by this point)

As you can see, if given a chance these games can succeed.  In comparison theyre much smaller than games that gets a sequel, but none the less theyre very successful if given the right opportunity.  So would you like to see more new ip, reboots, or do you like getting sequels?

Of course you can just say you like all three, which I agree with, but resources can only go so far.  Would you like to see people behind the popular Call of Duty franchise invest in a new ip as an example?

They all have their Pros and Cons.

Forever IP like Destiny... updates/expansions in the same world.

But I do like JRPGs like FF... start to end without sequel... each title one story.

Im ok with making more games like destiny, as in MMO type worlds that expands over time.  I'm however not ok with paying $60 for a game that appears to be holding content back in order to make you pay more down the line.  It needs to have a smoother launch than Destiny in my opinion.  Make the original content stellar and then add to it from there.

All 3 can give their pros and cons but for me I'd go with a new IP and sequel over a reboot since some reboots haven't always been or looked better than their previous counterparts.

Mankind, in its arrogance and self-delusion, must believe they are the mirrors to God in both their image and their power. If something shatters that mirror, then it must be totally destroyed.

I'd want Insomniac making Ratchet & Clank games forever don't care if they're sequels or like the one releasing this year, a reboot, but don't stop the awesomness lol. I mean, sure they can mix it up with new IP inbetween so that they don't get burnt out, but after that they should make another Ratchet & Clank

I like good games.

erm...spiritual successors?

Sequels & New IPs > Reboots

However, I just want good games and don't really care in which category they fall.
