The guy suing must be fun at parties. Seriously, even if GG did not deliver, who bothers going to court over some pixels? Come on now.

Apparently not that silly since they decided to settle out of court.

It's America land of the lawsuits. What else do you expect?
| plip.plop said: This is a perfect example of a frivilous lawsuit. Instead of spending money and time focusing on conent, Companies have to deal with people like this, on a absolutley stupid point of arguement. If that article was never written where the developers alluded to a new way of achieving 1080. this lawsuit would have never come about. I stand by my statement that if pixel count means that much to you, you should just game on a PC, and restrict consoles to exclusives (If your eyes can bear it). I just find it hypocritical that people whose main gaming system last gen was not the torch bearer for "superior version" in terms of graphics, have now decided this gen that graphics resolution is now number one on their must have list. Granted the roles have flipped flopped, and the people that had the "superior version" of a game last gen now finds that graphics don't matter. Which proves my point pixel counting is worthless, and a waste of time. Look at the WiiU sitting quietly over there pumping out beautiful 720p games, and constantly having numerous GOTY nominations. proving that solid gameplay, and great level design trumps resolution. |
I agree the lawsuit is frivolous, but there's still no need to insult people for caring about IQ. I care about IQ, and i do own a gaming PC for precisely that reason, but that doesn't mean i don't also have standards for my consoles.
Regardless, there's a dramatic difference between believing something is a necessity and simply valuing it. I don't personally care much for 60fps in most console games, 30fps is usually adequate for me, but you don't see me insulting people for believing differently.

Fair enough. But this kind of thinking leads to these kinds of lawsuits.
Regardless of your system of choice, you can't help feel sick to your stomach for acknowledging this person, and his petty lawsuit really exist.
Hate to break it to you guys but this case was NOT SETTLED. It was dismissed with prejudice. You guys really need to start doing more research before you make threads....

TBH good that sony had to pay for that.
Everyone should pay for lying. Activision for saying that COD on WiiU is 1080p
Citroen should pay for their fucking transformer car roller blading down a hill commercial etc.
Nintendo should pay for showing a Wii that at least had motion plus level of accuracy in the reveal trailer (but then you had to buy that addon lol)
Commercials and covers and whatnot should show 100% truth. The whole world is a stupid place because idiots believe manipulating marketing. No Bosch vaccum can be so silent that a tiger wont wake up. There is no such thing as a Orange comic tiger talking to you when you eat Kellogs Frosties or whatever.
Even trailers should show an accurate representation of the movie. if 10% of the movie is funny and the rest is bullshit than a trailer should be 10% funny and 90% bullshit. Its just a joke that companies are allowed to show the highlights in a trailer and the movie is crap in the end.
Manipulating commercials should stop already.
This is how it should be done. (if the product does not sell because its shit then change the product!)

Publishers/developers need to be held to account for making misleading claims. But an actual lawsuit that takes up court time, that is ridiculous and frivolous and the court should have refused to hear it out of hand. Let publishers be judged in the court of public opinion on this sort of thing, not waste the precious resources of the judicial system on matters which or inconsequential.
If people want to sue publishers for some of the shit they pull then sue them for producing buggy/broken games. resolution, aside from console/PC spec pissing contests, is meaningless.

I don't think there's anything wrong with someone simply complaining about it, Sony should have been more transparent from the start, but the lawsuit is rather silly... What i really don't understand though is why GG didn't boast about it. A technique that allows you to create an approximate 1080p IQ while also boosting your frame-rate by a significant amount is exactly the kind of thing console games should be embracing. It could do with some refining (particularly the predictive algorithm), but it would be a great compromise for many games. |
I mean they did, and then people freaked out. The problem is that people are freaking out over something they don't understand. The resolution of the MP isn't as simple as "Not" being 1080p.
Prediction for console Lifetime sales:
Wii:100-120 million, PS3:80-110 million, 360:70-100 million
[Prediction Made 11/5/2009]
3DS: 65m, PSV: 22m, Wii U: 18-22m, PS4: 80-120m, X1: 35-55m
I gauruntee the PS5 comes out after only 5-6 years after the launch of the PS4.
[Prediction Made 6/18/2014]
What sissies - if I was head of a company sued by some idiotic troll like that I would release full fury of my Alan Shore or Harvey Specter on them.
