I don't think it will sell that much, but they could easily ship that much.

Why does Konami want/think that they can sell more MGSs in Japan than they ever sold before there? Is it because the PS3 sells so great compared to the PS2?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not criticizing the PS3 here. I just want a bit of what Konami is smoking (or at least I probably would if I liked drugs). Even if the PS3 turns the table completely, MGS4 isn't going to sell one million in Japan unless there's a second coming of Jesus.

I believe that they can do it.

Aggressive bundling, and aggressive marketing will let it get to 1 million.

Seriously, just because a game is a sequel means it wont sell as much as past games? The fact that this is the most massive/epic game to date doesn't allow it to sell a little bit more? Its also releasing on a console with mediocre to really good games, but nothing jaw dropping has been released yet.

1,000,000 in Japan alone might be a stretch, but it depends on how its marketed. I dont see any Japanese PS3 owners that like games not buying this. I dont see any MGS fans in Japan not buying this.

And I dont expect this game to just fall off the map like many other PS3 games. Its going to be THE must have game with the PS3.

Yeah, but I don't think a MGS has ever meant so much to Sony. They may be more agressive in marketing it, but 1 million seems difficult considering the respective bases of the PS2 and PS3. You never know though, Japan is a bit crazy when it comes to predictions.

I say it won't.

Dynasty Warriors, PES, Yakusa and Minna no Golf all sold more than MGS on PS2.

I think MGS4 will sell more than these PS3 iterations, but not substantially. PS3 software sales are low and I don't see that changing with MGS4.

I say 400.000 first week, 600.000 Lifetime. You can quote me on this prediction.
