If NX is another traditional console and it follows the path of the N64, GC, and Wii U, then I expect NX will continue the downward trend and sell less than 10 million (it will probably will get discontinued due to stagnating console sales like the Dreamcast did). I think creating another Wii success at this point is going to be very difficult just because of tablets and smartphones.

If, however, the NX is a handheld that integrates quality of life concepts and and is unified with Nintendo's new mobile platform, I think it can sell extremely well (> 50 million). A handheld that has quality of life features that smartphones do not have could be a device that people would like to have alongside their smartphones (I'm just picturing how a donut-shaped LCD screen could be part of a device that fits over your wrist while jogging :) ).

This way developers will code for the consol, but will also potentially have sales for the handheld.

I think this means we go back to a "normal" controller (for the consol).  

 

I think it ll sell really well if nintendo does it this way.

It will draw more developers to it, because its 2 markets in 1, which will be more attractive to develop for.

Not many people seem to able to accept this idea that NX could be two different hardware units able to run the same games/apps.

I think Nintendo has realized that they are unable to support the mobile and home console divisions adequately so they are unifying them.


Its the smart thing to do.

Esp if your not going to make a over the top insane hardware specced consol.

To me it makes ALOT of sense and I think it ll put nintendo back on the map (its just speculation at this point though).

 

I hope thats the route nintendo chooses to go.

Yeah the only thing I see as a limiting factor is mobile cpu's, they are a bit weak.

I also think the New 3DS came about so Nintendo could avoid paying royalties to that guy who sued them for pilfering his 3D tech.

On the actuall numbers the "NX" will sell, if Nintendo don't go after one demographic i would guess between 80-100 mil

When the NX is released Nintendo can go in to sell millions, if done properly. First name the system super Nintendo 2. Second get third party support. Third release with an new Mario game using the latest graphic techniques. Fourth, do not use DRM because it seems Nintendo is tightening up loose ends. Fifth, come in at a price point in par with existing consoles. Sixth debut exclusive amibos with the NX that work with new Mario game. Mission complete.
