To me, it's a more polished Mario Kart. I hadn't played a MK game extensively since Double Dash, and I felt right at home when I started playing MK 8.

So, forgive me if I don't feel I'm playing that much of a new game when I play MK 8 over the other entries in the series. Most of what you brought up are nothing more than presentation aspects over gameplay changer.

What do you want to change from the Mario Kart chore mechanics?

There´s some things that can never change man, it´s obvious. Do you want to turn Mario Kart into a platformer or something that Mario Kart is not? Or you only want them to kill the franchise? I mean, there´s not so much you can do with a Kart racing game, (there´s also not so much that you can change with ANY racing game, specially realistic ones) and Mario Karts has evolved a lot since GC. You can´t be asking for a revolution coming from a Mario Kart game. You can ask for that on games like Splatoon though.

I'm not asking for any changes. I'm saying there are not much changes and that's why there are franchises fatigue from a general gamer's perspective.. Core Nintendo fans don't seem to realise that, because the games are still what they expect and love from Nintendo. Myself included.

Nintendo isn't the only  company that will suffer from that. Other companies will go through that if they stick to the same franchises without shaking things up for an extended period of time. Take Gran Turismo for example. That's one franchise that's always been a quality one, but have also been stagnating for a while. And sales have been going down since GT3.  What about Capcom? Excect for Street Fighter, most of their franchises have sold consistently worse over time... Although, the quality of their output have also been inconsistent. But Megaman used to sell well, but went into oblivion over time. There are many other examples you can think of, I'm sure. Mostly, those games couldn't adjust to the times and faded away.

in any case, I'm not asking anything of Nintendo. I like that when I buy one of their games, I get the elements that I expect. Because I'm a fan of those franchises, and that's the gameplay and level design I want to experience again. But if you look at it from the outside, I think the flaws in their approach are easy to pin-point. Or at least, it's not that hard to understand why a lot of people might not consider their vision for gaming as the best ever.

Again, it's not like their games get bad scores in the first place. But they're also clinging to an aging approach to game design/philosophy, despite the amount of polish few game makers dare put in their games. Let's just not forget that they DO get due praise when they shake things up with fresh and innovative games like the Metroid Prime and Mario Galaxy series.

Cutest franchise ever. Period.  :P

It's remarkable how great Yoshi's Island still looks 20 years and 4 generations later. It just goes to show, art will stand the test of time long after technology moves on.

By the same token, I have no doubt that in 2035, when we're all playing photorealistic virtual reality games, Woolly World will still be beautiful. :)

If you play every single entry in a franchise, not only is that your own choice and not any game in said franchise, but you definitely aren't a general gamer then. This is what reviewers fail to realize, not everyone has played every game prior to the one being review'ed, thus anything about those prior games wont be relevant to everyone. Going on about how Tropical Freeze doesn't innovate from Returns certainly does nothing for me having never played either game, only waste my time.

It's a review. It is subjective. As such, it is based on the experience of a person. It can never be unbiased.

But you seem to worry about the score more than about what the content of the review points out. Why care about whether or not Tropical Freeze scored lower than Returns? Shouldn't you instead read other aspects of the review instead? You know, the text that usually describes what the gemeplay is like, how difficult it is, and whatnot?  Isn't that what you wish to read, if you want to know if a game is for you or not? Or is it wrong for people to score something lower when you think it deserves more? What's it exactly that bother you about those review scores?

There are plenty of reviewers out there. Surely you can find some that better align with your ideologies and stop caring about an agregate that doesn't give you the big picture?

Keeping your review relevant to those it'll actually matter to doesn't require being unbiased, though that helps.

I seem to worry about the score despite never even using that word except when I told you I don't care about scores more than what's said.

How are they not relevant? And if you think a review doesn't cater to you, there are plenty others.

I mentioned that there are plenty of factors that affect a score. You went with one aspect and ran with it so far. It's not the only aspect, and it's not an aspect that is necessarily important for every reviewers, but it is relevant to some. As it's been seen often so far. If it doesn't matter to you, so shall it be. But that doesn't mean it shouldn't matter to others.  Really, I don't see what's the purpose of your comments on this. Other than to say that not all eviews are written specifically for you.

These two "Mario Kart" people need to gtfo off this thread, this if a Yoshi discussion/preview thread, not a Mario Kart 8 appreciation/discussion one.

Wooly World looks BEAUTIFUL, such a bummer that It was delayed until the Fall, but the wait will be worth it.

Yoshi is soooo cute! I don't even like amiibo, but I want one of those yarn ones.

I can't wait for Yoshi's Woolly World. I haven't played a Yoshi game since the GBA version of the original game.

The discussion wasn't exactly about Mario Kart. It came into being after comments were made about how Yoshi's Woolly World (the very topic of this thread ;) would be reviewed.

Surely enough, the thread was unwillingly derailed and I am in part responsible for it.  But there are better ways to get your point across in a more civil, less inflamatory way. Telling people to "get the fuck off" isn't going to get you far on these forums.

Judging a game based on things outside of the game is bad, period. Not sure why it's hard for you to get that's what I'm saying.
