From the sounds of it, it's much better than Kirby's Epic Yarn. I'll be mad if the reviews are lower! :p

Expect it; Tropical Freeze scored lower than DKCR after all.

*sigh* I am getting really tired of this being brought up all of the dang time.  Why don't you focus on other franchises, like Mario Kart where 8 scored higher than 7 and Wii?  Or Bayonetta 2 outscoring Bayonetta 1?  Or NSMBU outscoring NSMB2?  There are examples both ways.

I chose that example because it's in the same genre as Woolly World, a genre that isn't scoring  as well this gen as last.

Tropical Freeze, as great as it is, played it very safe. While Returns brought the series back.

This is true, though I feel a similar fate could befall Yoshi, where it would lose marks for being a 2D platformer, a genre that after a resurgence in the 7th gen has fallen out of favour in the last few years.

Remember the +90 of Rayman Legends. Tropical Freeze is probably the only game that is giving you the impression of critics scoring poorly the 2D-platformers, I agree that some webs don´t apreciate them enough, but I´m not sure if we can call this a trend.

So Returns is the better game simply because it released sooner than Tropical Freeze but not too soon after the last Country game.

Surely I don't have to explain to you all the factors that affect a game's score?

Ocarina still stands as the highest scoring game in history. Does it mean that no game has ever been better ever since?

NSMBU scored lower than NSMBWii also.

If a game doesn't get the score that I want it to get, it's all a conspiracy against what I like.

Talking about "playing safe"...

I think that a game like NSMBU scoring 84 is supporting my point more than yours.

But Kirby lost marks for flaws that the Yoshi games seem to address, most notably the ridiculous ease of the game.  It only scored an 86.  And the genre scores plenty competently.  Shovel Knight has scores from 85-92 depending on the platform; Ori and the Blind Forest has an 88; NSMBU 84; Some scores are down, some are up, it's just the way of things.  And your sentiment is based on the assumption that the average 2D platform of this gen is equal to or greater than the average 2D platformer of last gen, something I am not necessarily comfortable with subscribing to wholesale.

Don't really care, point is that's a silly factor to judge a game by, as are any that don't involve the actual in game content.

That wasn't my implication. What I mean is that this gen there's a growing sentiment that 2D platformers are acceptable as indie titles, but not as full priced retail releases, and that this affects the scores they get.

"Playing it safe" is actually the key point; that's how 2D platformers by Nintendo are seen by many people these days, as them playing safe and living in the past.
Do I agree with that? Not at all.

But it's a sentiment I see very often.
